MS Clinics

Hello to All.

My LP came back abnormal, and I have officially been diagnosed.  Do any of you have opinions or information about UAB or Emory in Atlanta?

Thank you for all of your support.  This site has been my anchor the past few months.

Hello Sherry!

My name is Susan and I am the SE District Manager for a company that manufactures a wonderful medical device that helps patients with walking and increasing their energy  as a result of a number of neurological diagnosis - one being MS.  I work with UAB and Emory and Shepherd Spine Center - I also know a top MS physician in N Alabama, he is wonderful!.

I am happy to give you my email and work phone and pass on the info!
Our company is called AllardUSA - www.allardusa.com

Take Heart, keep the faith - I hope we can help! I'll say a prayer for you!

I agree with you, I think they are your best bets.  But check them out like Quix suggested.  It's better to be safe than sorry.  We have to much of that around here already.

I'm sorry about your pain but let's do something about it soon so it does'nt get any worse.

I'll be praying

Thank you for the info.  I hope you feel better.

I'm not having much pain and what I do have is sporadic.  My feet hurt, especially in the mornings, and I've had a few episodes of "rib spasms" - fortunately they only last 10-15 minutes.  I am sore following.  I do have/or have had blurred vision, odd nerve sensations, right side weakness, and  banding just below my right knee.  Fatigue is a constant companion and cognition is not what it used to be.

As far as my neuro . . . I roasted him two Friday nights ago.  My GP recommended I go to either of these two speciality clinics.  She offered to refer me herself, and I plan on taking her up on that one.  At this time, I believe they are my closest bet for neuros specializing in MS.

Thank you all.

Hi, there!  I would suggest that you see if either of these centers are listed as members of the (International) Consortium of MS Centers.  It is the official collaborative group on the optimal diagnosis and treatment of MS.  Here is a link to the listing:

Good luck, sorry about the diagnosis.  I know you did not want this, but it IS a relief to have a name and a target, a goal, a villain and an answer.

If you don't mind my asking, what sorta symptoms are you having?  Do you also have alot of pain?  That's my worst symptom.  I think I could deal with the not walking (getting better) more than the pain.  Sometimes it gets so severe I can't even move.  I just want to die.  But the good thing is I don't have time for that.lol  Anyway I was just wondering and I hope you don't have alot of pain.

Did your neuro suggest you go to one of these facilities?  Does he/she not specialize in MS?  If the answer is no to these then I first would find a neuro. who specializes in MS.  Ususally people go to these special hospitals to get a dx.  I may be wrong but are they like the Mayo Clinic?

I will be praying,
Carol

I live in NW Georgia.  UAB and Emory are equal distances from me, so I would like to go to the better of the two.  Any info you can provide would be super!

Thanks,
Sherry

I am sure you did not want this dx, but at least you know now and can get the medical help you need to fight this disease.

I don't mean to be nosy, but do you live in Alabama?  I live in a small town about 40 miles east of Birmingham.  If you want, I have a physician friend who may know a neuro in this area or at UAB. His daughter has developed neuro problems recently and I think her neuro has worked with MS patients before.  Just let me know and I will try to get this info for you.

Keep you chin up and I hope you are feeling well today.  You have much support on this site and we are all here for you.

Hi and welcome!   You have found your new home :)    I'm sure you know EVERYONE is different with this disease.. so what works for one may not work for another?  I can't help you about UAB or Emory in Atlanta.  I would recomment finding a neurologist who deals with MS daily...   ANd yes I know how you feel about being diagnosed with MS.. but it does make sense with a name to it.  YOU ARE NOT ALONE!   THere are great websites... nationalmsscoiety.org  that provides alot of information.
Glad you are here

Carol,

Thank you.  I do believe this forum is a God send.  I've been reading posts daily, but rarely feel able to contribute.  My questions have been many, but my insight minimal.

My GP suggested MS to me almost two years ago, but the neurologist disagreed.  I didn't want to have MS, but I was beginning to think I was nuts.  A part of me is glad to have a diagnosis, and another part of me thinks I'm a fool.  I'm telling myself - the only thing different now, is that I know what to call what I have.  The disease was doing its work with or without a diagnosis.  At least now I can fight back.  I just need some guidance - what's my next move?

God's blessing on all,

Sherry

I'm sorry I can't help you but I just wanted to tell you that I'm sorry you have MS.  I assume that is what you mean.  We will be here for you no matter what.  Welcome to our family.  I wish it where better circumstances.

I'll be praying,
Carol
