MS-Direct

I am very new to the forum.  At this stage, my family is still researching and questioning vigorously as many of you have and do.  Much of my reading keeps leading me back to the role of Vitamin D and diet in MS.  I see little mentioned in the posts of this approach.  Much is made of medicines which are questionable at best.  I have been impressed with the Swank Diet, the MS-Direct website (especially for all the Canadians) and the research on high doses of Vitamin D.

It seems that Canada, the U.K. and Germany are far more open to the vitamin and dietary controls of MS.  While the diet requires great discipline, it sure beats some of the other options.  I would like to see your opinions on these comments and what any of you have done with diet.  My son is following a modified Swank and is on high doses of Vitamin D.

Also, if you go to YouTube, check Professor Ebers, and Dr. Pendergast on Vitamin D.  Very interesting and, I think, worth considering.

Well, if you begin to compare the research done by Canadian, European research vs US, you soon see there is a distinct bias on the part of US MS societies to subscribe to few treatments besides meds.  If you follow Professor Ebers, check YouTube, he is distinct in his analysis of Vitamin D needs.
PLEASE read the Direct-MS research.  A new study is done on Vitamin D and is being presented to the American Society of Neurologists.  The finding is that D in high doses is safe and patients on it have fewer exacerbations.  Keep following the D research on other sites and you will see that even though D tests normal, there are many factors which prevent it from being properly used by the body.  Thus, the need for higher dosage.  MY son is now on 50,000 units daily and has notice a distinct change in fatique levels. We are awaiting more progress when he changes his diet completely and checks his allergies via Direct-MS info.

Our society is naturally biased against anthing but drug based medicine.  I personally have seen my husband CURED of adult onset asthma with herbs, homeopathics and a sugar free diet.  He was ill all the time, and a holistic MD took him off of all meds.  My husband didn't believe in any of it, but he followed the program and got cured all the same.

We need to think OUT OF THE BOX, and open our minds to more than allopathic medicine.  It has merit, but is not the end of the story.

Keep reading and stay proactive.  It is our story, not the docs.

Hello Mom.  I am sorry to hear that your son has MS.

I spoke with a researcher from the University of Michigan.  I asked him about whether or not Vitamin D deficiencies might be the problem with our immunes systems.  He told me that it is important to keep up all our vitamin leves, but that the cause of MS does not seem to be that simple.

I will take the time to read the reports that you suggest though. Thanks.
