MS Forum Members

You have my sincere thanks for responding to my post about the passing of Ryan Reyes from the Anxiety Forum.  As it turns our folks, someone has played a very cruel joke on Ryan and we have received the following letter from Ryan, telling us the REAL story.  The leitter has been confirmed as authentic.

"Hello folks,

Disregard the above "obituary". Below, you will find the complete story that led up to the present...

Last weekend, my girlfriend (Linda) and I decided to go to Kings Island theme park in Cincinnati, Ohio. It's about a 3 1/2 hour drive from Pittsburgh, and we left at roughly 5:00 Saturday morning of last week. By the time we stopped and had breakfast, it was shortly after 9:00 when we arrived at the park. Everything went well until Saturday evening, when I developed a vague onset of joint pain, followed by shortness of breath and severe migrating joint pain. The original plan was to spend the night in a motel and ride all day Sunday, but we ended up driving back Saturday night. I dropped her off at home, and then I went to the ER. The place was essentially empty, so they took me straight back. Apparently, I had a low oxygen saturation and some other abnormal numbers. After several tubes of blood were drawn, a chest CT scan taken, and an EKG taken, they determined that I had pneumonia and a flare-up of rheumatic fever (I've a history going back to the age of 5). They were under the assumption that I had had strep throat (although I don't recall having it - no pain), so they admitted me and started me on IV fluids and an antibiotic. Apparently, my airway was partially obstructed as well, for which they gave me epinephrine. This seemed to do the trick, and I was feeling much better by Monday evening. I was discharged (at my request), drove home, and began to feel very ill again. I emailed greenlydia to let her know what was going on, and that I was returning to the hospital. I told her not to worry if she didn't hear back from me for a few days.

Once the pneumonia cleared by Thursday evening, I was started on prednisone for the joint pain, and made a rapid improvement. I was released Thursday night, and continue to do well. For the next six months, I'll require bi-weekly injections of Penicillin. Other than that, I'm fine.

Friday, I remained in bed for most of the day. Yesterday, I logged into my computer to check my e-mail and to view my web site for new posts. Much to my horror, I found some phony obituary claiming that I had "expired" on Thursday! Also to my horror, I couldn't log in under my user name to delete the post before it was spread to MedHelp.

Friday afternoon, one of my co-workers had called me, asking for the password for my computer so that he could print a work order number for a particular job. No work order number = no authorization (and no pay for him). Of course, I gave it to him. He was the only person who would've had access to my office computer, and thus, I knew that he was the person who pulled this "prank". He knew about the web site (as he's seen me working on it), and I had it bookmarked under "favorites". Apparently, he wasn't too bright, as he didn't change the e-mail address (only the password). So, I had the modified password emailed to me. He used the same one to pose as my girlfriend (Linda), using the name "Linda79". Once I logged into the system, I completely deleted the forum (I've had enough). As for the "Linda79" profile, he sent a message to both "barfer" and Barbara (heartflutters) confirming my death - that I was found dead in my home by my aunt (who lives 100 miles away). As for the "obituary", the description is incomplete, and the names are bogus. There was no description of education, etc.

In short, folks, my personal forum was hijacked by a disgruntled employee. I was to be the target of this "joke", but clearly things have gone terribly wrong. I believe that if the person in question had known about the possibility of cross-posting between the two sites, he wouldn't have acted as he did. He was not aware of MedHelp, only my small forum of 14 members.

I would like to thank those folks who've replied to this thread, and wanted to inform you all personally that I am alive and well. I've not posted to this site in some time, and requested that MedHelp remove my former user name of "RCA7591".

MedHelp...Please remove this post.

Best regards,

Ryan

As a member of the MS Fourm, I apologize to all of you for "sending out condolences" to Ryan and his family.  I was not aware that this was a hoax and only wanted to do what was best for Ryan and the Anixety Forum family.  I feel very embarrassed that I fell for this trickery.

I AM thankful that Ryan is alive and well and wish nothing but the best for this young man.

Very Sincerely,
Heather

Don't feel bad honey...you had nothing but the best of intentions and I certainly hope that this "disgruntled employee" gets taken down a peg or two with a stiff reprimand and this walking papers!  There is no excuse for this sort of prank pulling and I hope that Ryan has the fortitude to stand up to this idiot!

Lots of Hugs,
Rena

Sweet, sweet girlfriend, there is no need for apologies or for feeling embarrassed. I read that post and it sure sounded legit to me. It is just unbelievable that someone would be so cruel to do something like that.  Your heart as usual was in the right place and you just wanted to provide support to those who lost one dear to them. You are so sweet and caring.

I'm glad to hear that he is alive and well.

Hugs and love to you sweet Heather
