Sudden Vision Loss...MS Diag.

I was wondering if I could get "input" from others on my MS diagnoses. Last week I had a sudden change in my vision. I was trying to paint my nails, when I suddenly couldn't see clearly. I had double vision in the distance, and blurry vision up close. I went to the eye doc., and she told me to go to the E.R. ( she said the distance prescription was the same. no other eye illness found) The E.R. did a CT scan, nothing found. LP showed very high protein level. Other symptoms-cold hands and feet, numbness in legs and hands, poor balance, forgetfulness, RLS, headache. My vision has not improved at all. I cannot work until the symptoms improve-I am a paramedic. I have to be able to see clearly so I can start IV's and give meds. The E.R. doc called a neuro doc and he agreed with the MS diagnoses. He is doing an MRI next week. I know MS medically, but not as a patient. The doc said this will change my life forever, and that I may have to change jobs.

Did they indicate that they saw lesions? Not sure if they can only be seen by MRI or not. Sounds like it could be MS. But it could be simpler atleast we can hope for that. Keep us posted. Good luck.

You definately have neurological symptoms. But many disorders mimic MS.

Wait until they do the MRI (hopefully with and without contrast.)

The ER Doc may have jumped the gun on a DX of MS.As a cat scan is not a very usefull tool for diagnosing MS.

As far as changing professions wait until you see a neuro and get the proper testing done. And a Diagnosis.

I can relate to the visual problems as they are common with MS.

The high high protein in the spinal fliuid will give your neuro a place to start.

Try not to stress, easier said than done I know, but stress will add to your symptoms and intensify them.

MS has changed my life,I don't take anything for granted,it has made me a stronger person.I have limitations, but I have never let this disease slow me down.

Its liveable, manageable, just not cureable (yet).Today there's disease modifying meds to slow down the progression and several meds to treat the symptoms.

Keep us posted, wish I had more to offer.
