MS and, Mitochondrial Myopathy

I have had  MS for 8 years now i was 35 when i was DX but, now my Mother was DX with Mitochondrial Myopathy and, i am scared this is what i have since its Genetic. How do they tell the difference between the 2 diseases? Should I be checked for the Myopathy?  Does the Mitochondrial have lesions in the brain when a MRI is done. I have 19 lesions in my brain, brain stem, spine. I just need to know the differences in the 2 illness and, how do they tell now that i have  MS for 8 years and, been taking Rebif injections the last 8 years.

Thanks you

I know nothing about mitochondrial myopathy.  I looked around for a link for you, but came up with two very scientific articles.  From the little information I've found, it does look like it can cause brain lesions--See these links:

I"m posting to help bump up your message for others to see it.  There maybe someone else that may know something about MM or can make sense of the medical articles and look at the MRI images in the second article to see if there's differences between lesions of MM and MS.

Please keep us posted.

Deb

From what little I understand, Mitochondrial Myopathy comes in different forms and affects different ways. It is Some have muscle problems, others have eye or digestive issues. I know a lady who has several relatives with Leighs disease which is one of the MM disorders. No one knew what it was for several generations, they just thought they had kind of wonky walking issues.

Check this link out for more info- I hope this helps you.
