MS and head trauma

I was struck by a car as a pedestrian in Jan 2010, I had a severe concussion and 3 torn ligamnets in my left ankle, nerve damage in my neck and lower back as well as a few bulging discs. besides all the bruises etc. well from the accident I also have optic nerve damage in my left eye and hearing loss in my left ear, inner ear damage on both sides amongst other things. Now after every test you can imagine and numerous MRI'S the Dr thinks I have MS. I am going for a lumbar puncture on Wed to know 100% but at this point the Dr is at least 95% SURE. Can this all have been caused by the accident and head trauma? I have never had any problems before nothing started until the accident. since then I cannot drive had major surgery to replace 3 ligaments in my ankle, and have now lost my job because I ran out of time and temp disability. I have to go to Kessler rehab hospital for a special evaluation to see if ai can EVER work or Drive again I am terrified. I am 44 yrs old and single and so tired of depending on people for rides. I am at such a loss, not sure what to think or how to feel. The Dr was going to start treatments but decided to wait until the LP was complete. my arms go numb for no reason no warning, I have had 13 trigger shots in my neck and 4 in my lower back. Can this all be from being hit? Thank you for any insight I appreciate it.... Cheryl

Cheryl,

MS can be brought on from an accident. My sister was rearended and not to long after that it all hit her, first with the ON and then more symptoms. It took them 7 years to diagnose her but told her that it was brought on by the trauma of the accident.

Infections can also trigger MS. It is just so different is everyone but to answer your question, yes, it can be brought on from the accident.

Take care and good luck with theLP
