LP DONE

hi folks
well what a morning had the LP at the hospital!!!!
and the neurosurgeon could not get the needle into my spinal colum after lots of attempts and lots of pain and spasms in my back muscles.
before he started he said all my muscles in my back were so tight and commented that i had a bit of scoliosis!!!!
i said its all in my file about my spondylosis L4 L5 and my scoliosis
i told him i mentioned this to my neuro about the difficulty to do due to my back condition.
they now want to do it again under xray guidence in april.
not sure i want to go through it again now but will talk to my neuro soon about it.
i also have an appointment on the 15th march for a vep and something else???
im so sore now after him poking me like a pin cusion and my back muscles are spasming a lot
so it has put me off going through any more pain
regards bairdy

I third what Alex and Shell said!   When you go back for the LP, make them knock you out...or refuse the test.  That is what I would do.   And mandatory fluoroscopy!

I am so very sorry you went through what you did!   They should have stopped well before they did.  I hope your back spasms don't get like mine did.  Try to stay relaxed, if you can.

Hugs,
Addi

Hi Bairdy!

I'm not sure why it's not general rule to have these done under flouroscopy in the 1st place - would save all these painful steps.

I hope the next one is better for you. But, definitely decide on the 2nd go around once you get through this soreness :(

If you do, I'm with Alex - let them knock you out for it!

Bairdy I really know what your going through

I also had many attemps but this was due to a junoir doctor not having me in the right position! she kept hitting the bone and something that made my leg spam. Also she kept asking me if the twitching was cause i was so nervous I said no, it part of neurological issues I'm experiencing it's in my notes. No one had looked at them at all. Infact on hindsight she was the one who was nervous.

In the end a registrar did it on first attemps no pain really and I twitch alot less because he asked me to pull my legs to my chest and hold them there.
.

I ended up with a huge bruise that was very sore,My husband recond I had over 40 injections, and because I had been told I would be fine the day after I had agreed to have it done the day before the busiest week of the year for my business.

It would take alot of persuading to go through it again

Can they knock you out next time? They gave me an IV and I do not remember a think. I still do not get why I am the only one I know who was knocked out for the LP. I did one awake and never again. Take care of your back it may be sore for awhile.
