MS?

I am a 54 yr old female. Had cervical spinal surgery 1 1/2 yrs ago after a fall.  Some of those symptoms of nerve damage have yet to disappear.  Recently I had nystagmus which my neuro said couldn't be related to my injury. I also have many other new symptoms of MS.  MRI shows a few lesions.  My neuro attributes those to age. Have recently remembered my face going numb in 2005. MRI showed no stroke. Have had Grave's disease which turned into Hashimoto's. I also have had a few seizures scattered throughout my life since age 15 with no known cause. In High School and college I felt like I could not think, or keep things straight - I now realize my cognitive thinking was off.  I was an extremely athletic person, but would find my self exhausted - and then depressed - only to find it gone suddenly. Now new symptoms are fatigue, depression, muscle twitching, nystagmus, cognitive problems, nerve pain etcl  None of them except fatigue are persistant.  I had a spinal tap last week.  Results show no signs of anything, including MS wrong.  My neuro says I don't have MS because of the spinal tap.  Your thoughts - and where do I turn now?

Has your doctor checked you out for MS mimics yet?  Lyme Disease is one that could cause all your symptoms.  Some people carry a mild or moderate case of it for years until something happens to stress the immune system (surgery, death in the family, divorce, or just aging) and then it gets worse. I don't know how old you are or how long you have had symptoms, but it is worth looking in to it.

First things first... It's a drag to hear what you are going through. None of it sounds fun at all.

I had a nuerologist tell me that it is possible to have MS and have a clear spinal tap..... Apart from MRI's and spinal taps I am not sure what else they do to test for MS. Have you considered getting a second opinion?

I hope that you find the answers that you are looking for.

Best,

Tom
