fatigue question?

I was offered drugs for fatigue last year, all I have to do is call the Ms nurse and she will call the drug in to my local pharmacy, but I'm  not sure which drug.

I feel like I'm ready for   a med for the fatigue now,  and don't want to take it anything long term, I've lost weight this past year and in the last two months I have PT for my ankle and work out 2-3 a week and one of the work out's  is
lap swimming,    I look like one of those slow moving Manatee's in the pool,  in my mind Michael Phelps couldn't even keep up me.   :-))

I been able to make is so far without fatigue med and I'm not on any DMD'S yet.

So here's my questions,
1)  If you start on a fatigue med, do just need to take it short term?
2)  Am I missing a link in the health pages for list of fatigue drugs.
3) could  someone list the drugs for fatigue and the effects
4) What are you taking?  how's it working?
5) can you the drug only as needed?

thanks everyone  from a very tired,

Johnniebear.

I also have started the amantadine....I thought the same thing....It wasn't working, but after using it twice a day for about two months, it does work for me...I also use methylphenidate (ritlan) right after work so I can go home and not go straight to bed....This was just prescribed last week and really have no opinion of what it is doing for me...

I started Amantadine maybe 2 1/2 months ago.  Before I started it, I felt like I wouldn't be able to work anymore.  I was a walking zombie - I always felt so wiped out.  When I first started taking it, I actually wasn't that impressed with it. But over time, I think maybe it has accumulated in my system. I do feel that it helps me a lot now.

Good luck to you,
Kelly

I tried Nuvigil for 2 months, and it did keep me awake, but that's about all. I felt just as foggy

depending on your insurance, getting Provigil or nuvigil approved can be difficult. Be sure to talk this through with the MS nurse before she just starts phoning it in.  It is off label use for MS fatigue but if you can document sleep difficulties it should be no problem.  Good luck with this.

If you can't get this one, the ADD drugs are also useful - adderall is one name that comes to mind.

We have had a number of conversations about these drugs - search this community by the drug name and you will see a list of threads that you can review.

best,
L

Glad you're in the swim - it's great, isn't it?

If you feel you are ready to try it, then go for it. Call in and get the script and see if it works for you.

I started taking provigil about a month ago and it has changed my life.  I was seriously worried about how much longer I'd be able to work because the fatigue was so bad that I could barely move after 12:00 and the minute I got home I had to lie down.

We have so many issues going on in our bodies with MS and Fatigue is at the top of the list, at least for me.  It makes everything so mugh harder.  Now that I've started taking this med, I can get through my day at work and not go home so fatigued that I can't make myself something to eat or even go out with friends.  This has been a a godsend.

There are several drugs on the market but I am only familiear with provigil and nuvagil.  You can look them up on the web to see the side effects.  I am on a low dose and have very few side effects, but the higher the dose is might be a few more issues.

My neuro said you can take as needed, but recommended that I keep the dose constant for the most benefit.

If you decide to try it, you can alwasy go off when you don't feel you need it anymore or if you dn't feel it helped you.  Wishing you the best of luck.
