Moving - switch Neuro's?

My husband accepted a position in Portland, so we are moving. Exciting and Eeeek!!!

I am trying to figure out if I should continue my care with my MSologist in Seattle or ask her for a referral. I am not sure how it would work for IVSM being 3 hours away but for routine care I'd think it would be fine. I am thinking a switch will be needed.

Luckily, the employment has a moving package so I'll not have to over do it physically, I hope.

I saw my specialist last week, I am already having some challenges with my chronic symptoms but I guess this is my new norm. :( (She tried to break it to me gently.)  I see the Naturepathic MD in her office next week to see if they can help in some way. I am not sure how this will play out but I want to take care of myself as we do this.  

My wise MS friends, can you share your wisdom with me?

Something I forgot to mention is that I've also done a follow up by teleconference with my neuro.  Not for my scheduled annual appt or when he needs to examine me, but to follow up on some test results and to ask him some questions.  Felt more like an actual appt than just a phone call.  Perhaps your neuro could make this option available to you as well.

We found out (confirmed) after I saw her. I would really rather just continue my treatment with her. Otherwise, I just follow-up with her a couple times a year or if I am having trouble. Most of my contact is by phone anyway. We'd have to find a portable infusion center.

My insurance shouldn't be an issue. Currently, I am dual insured. My work and my through the military reserve program (which is a great program!) It will likely become my primary so they are used to remote treatment. I think my primary focus is continuing my DMD.  

Lu, I live in a beautiful area. There is no doubt. I am very excited about this. It is a little stressful trying to find the perfect community. Our kids are teens so this is most important. I am spending a lot of energy trying to locate the better schools, find locations with activities and still able to focus on what my husband and I like. Not easy! LOL ~ I happen to really like Lake Oswego. It's so cool but hard to find homes there. Go figure! ;)

It'd be a long drive. but I'd be hesitant to leave Dr. Kita.   A  neurologist of her caliber is hard to come by.  Has she offered to refer you to someone?

The drive from Portland to Seattle could be pleasant diversion, but then again the traffic in Seattle might be a deterrent....You should discuss this with your current neuro and see what the recommendation is and whether they would be willing to treat you remotely.  Would your health insurance be complicated by seeing a doctor in a state where you don't live?  Just a thought.

There are great neuros in Portland (Quix's hometown) - good luck with the move.

i live several hours' drive from my neuro - it's the closest clinic - but IVSM isn't a problem as he calls in the order to Outpatients at the local hospital.  my local GP has done this for me as well.  however it's all within the same province so maybe crossing state lines makes this problematic?  your current neuro can advise you and likely recommend a Portland neuro. congrats on the move, I love Portland but then again, I love Seattle too.  :-)

If I remember correctly someone or more said they had great MS Neuros in Portland. So it might not be too bad to switch Neuros with the move.
