My Derm. wants to go off all my meds in order to find what I am allergic to....

I was i to see my dermologist and he wants me to go to my internist to get off my meds in order to find out the source of my hive.

I can't imagine going off all of them all and adding them back one at a time to find the source of the allergy....I am on a lot of drugs.  I have not even gone to my internist about it yet. I'm thinking ...

The derm. has gone thru each med and jotted down information on which ones could be the culprit and the per centage rate..and some other things.   The highest is copaxone ...with 18% chance.

I just don't know what to do, so I am throwing this out, maybe i will get bite...

hugs, meg

Good morning,

oh, no, the derm told me to go to my Primary, he is an internist..I would not go with the derm, he has just been working with me on the hives, he said he can no longer really do anything.

I would be afaid to even try going off all of them, but i need somed onput...

@Lu, i decided to go off the copaxone, I will email my neuro and tell her and find out where to go from here.   I really believe it may be the copaxone, but I don't know what I will do if it is.  Her and I talked about this the last time i saw her, but not in detail.

Will keep you posted....

hiugs, meg

Without a doubt, I would involve my neuro over the dermatologist.  Let the neuro call the shots.

Peanuts2: your statement "You'll be surprised to find out this is curable with the proper chemical free diet!" is absolutely incorrect, no science based research or evidence to support, only unscientific testimonials, there is no cure for MS, period! The medications an MSer takes are necessary, not only to manage the disease but to aid quality of life. No diet, chemical free or otherwise will cure 'true' MS, allergy based symptoms that mimic 'true' diseases will benefit from dietary changes but do nothing for true real diseases like MS.

Meg: I have to agree that your neuro needs to be involved, i'm all for trying to find the culprit and if its found changing to something that doesn't give you hives but sometimes the cause isn't due to an individual something but from a combination of factors and then sometimes never found. Our DD gets hives when she takes some of the common med, she'd taken them for years so it didn't make sense to why now. GP said it was impossible but it turned out that after all the hoopla of drug tampering, the drug companies changed the coating and the packaging so that tampering was less possible. She is allergic to the coating, not the drug its self. Just a thought to add to the ones you already have.

What ever you end up doing, please make sure your neuro is in the loop!

Cheers........JJ

could it  be possible that none of the meds is causing the hives?  I have hives especially after my bone marrow transplant (not MS) and the doctor told me it is just a hyper immune reaction without a specific "casue". I take reactine and other antihistamines as needed.  Have you seen an allergist /imunalogist? They are better for diagnosing allergies or reactions.  They can test you for skin tests and  there are tests they can do where they do a blood test and test it against allergins.   I would not stop anything abruptly either.

Meg, another note here - many of the drugs we may be taking for ms, depression and other things can not be stopped abruptly without serious sideeffects.  For me I can't just stop baclofen or the wellbutrin.  I imagine all of us have a drug or two that is like that.

You could stop the copaxone and see if that is responsible.  We know several people here are unable to tolerate copax.

jess and Michelle are right- don't do anything until you talk with your neuro.

I agree with Michelle. Talk to your neuro and see if he/she will consult with your derm. to figure out a plan. I would be pretty nervous about going off my meds....and I'm only on two!

I would get your neuro involved here and let the 2 docs talk.  You have to be very careful to eliminate all your meds, and need to be safe doing it. I don't see a derm. knowing all the facts about all the neuro meds here...just be careful.
