My Vitamin D is low 18

Thank you for reading,

I'm taking 50,000iu once weekly for the next three months. I go do my first MRI to check for MS. I was wondering though could my low Vitamin D be the cause of all my symptoms. But I hadn't read anywhere that Low vitamin D causes tingling in hands and feet (10 months), burning sensation, memory problems, crawling sensation, dizziness, clumsiness, and dropping things. And I hadn't had any crazy MS attack like i read about others having. Just confused!! Do you think the MRI is a right decision or will my symptoms clear up once my Vit D level is back up?

Oh just had a baby a 1 year ago. And I've been check for other things like lupus, lyme, Vit B12, etc....all normal.

Thank you so much for your time and help.

Renee

My entire family has low vitamin D, my daughter was at 12. Non of us experienced any symptoms that we are aware of. My doctor told me since we live in Washington, the majority of people are low on vitamin D.

I would get the MRI done to rule out MS. 10 years ago I had only tingling in my left foot and calf that got me the diagnosis of MS.

Hi there & welcome to the Community.

I would definitely have an MRI if you are having all of those symptoms. There is no radiation in a MRI so no real harm with having one. They are basically very big magnets so if you have metal in your body then this will have to be discussed with the radiology beforehand.

I could not imagine low vitamin d causing all those symptoms either. I think low vitamin d can cause some pain as it is needed to absorb calcium but I've not heard of low vitamin d itself causing loads of symptoms.

It is important you take the vitamin d regularly to get those levels up because of the risk of developing Osteoporosis (loss of bone density or bone thinning). Many people take Calcium supplements for this but if you don't have any vitamin d you can't absorb the calcium.

I hope this helps & keep us updated on how you go.

Take care,

Karry.
