Need Advice

Hi everyone my name is Valerie and I am writing about my husband Joey. Back in Sept, he woke up with right eye bothering him within a few days the right side of his head went numb. We went to the ER because we were told that they needed to out rule a stroke. Cat scan didnt show anything. Well our regular doctor then sent us to a Neurologist, he has had an MRI done which came back abnormal....the impression on the reports says this......

The flow voids of the vertebral atery appear more conspicuous on the left, compared to the right. Post contrast contrast there was parenchymal, vascular, cisternal enhancement or leisonal enhancement. It shows evidence of mulitple areas of subcentineter T2 signal intensity changes whice are predominanly in the cortical/subcortical junction with extension to the cortex. On closer scrutiny, the corpus callosum appears to be spared. The etiology of these lesions is unclear. the lesions are not enhancing on cntrast. the possibibilites include vasculatides, lyme or somplicated migraine. The possiblity of a demyelinating disorder such as mulitple sclerosis cannot be excluded altogether, although the features are not very typical for it.

He has had a lumbar....that came back normal and they outruled Lyme.

Blood work showed definecy of the Vitiamin B.

His head is still numb, seems to have memory lose, confusion, muscles aches, doesnt do well in the heat anymore....(seems to intensify his symptoms) certain materials seem to bother his legs. (cant seem to sleep with the blanket we have always used anymore) feel better when he has cold air blowing on his legs......

any of these symptoms mean anything to anyone? Getting very frustrated waiting for a diagnosis.

I have MS but I have known for 10years now..for those years i functioned worked hard physically and mentally on a biotech farm. Had lots of symptoms but sorta grinned and bear it thing. Kids all left and grown up, i think my body said ok your turn now...rest.   I woke up one day extremely fatigued and said this is it been on Long term disability since April 09 i am lucky to have had that job.

As for CD copy, it was free with a doc referral, however we could pay 40$ to get a copy.  I was lucky enough i went no referral a really nice lady looked at the copy of the mri report and gave me the cd no charge and hug and said Good luck...Wow, there are nice people everywhere.

Hi Valerie

you will find a lot of help on this site, I sure did.  Do you have copies of the MRI.

I did and it really helps when you are looking for info you can compare your own to see what the similarities are with other MRI pics on google depicting several types of brain afflictions.

Feel free to look at my profile, i have posted some photos and you will see the my lesions and this was done with no contrast.  they look like white shadows circular and oval shaped.

hi Valerie and welcome to the MS forum here at medhelp.  I hope we will be able to give you some answers that will satisfy you for now.

Multiple Sclerosis is an incredibly difficult disease to diagnose and it is done by elimination of all other diseases that have similar symptoms.  The mimics, including Vit B deficiency can also take time and patience to diagnose and improve the symptoms.

We have excellent health pages here (yellow icon, upper right side of this page) and one that includes Mimics.  You may want to read through those and see if anything else sounds familiar.

The fact that his lesions are non-enhancing under contrast is a good sign -- active MS lesions do enhance (kind of like a glow)  and if this just started in September, his lesions should still show recent activity.  Lesions will continue to show enhancement up to about 30 days after the disease activity quiets down.

But I must add that MS has so many atypical ways to appear, that all of this perhaps may not apply to Joey either.

He's fortunate to have you helping him to find answers - I hope you will read the health pages and learn more.

Welcome again,
Lulu
