I heard an MS Specialist and researcher speak on the oral medications recently. He said we are at least ten years out on the oral drugs because of the side effects which are tricky and FDA. He also said they will be more expensive than the the injectables since more people will want the convenience of an oral medication. This seems to be the next logical step for the drug companies once the current DMD patents will have run out to have a more expensive drug everyone wants more. I can't see my insurance covering a more expensive drug when a well established less expensive (relatively speaking) exists.
MS drugs are the Geese that lay the golden eggs for most drug companies. We need them and there is not much competition. The trick is to make more expensive MS drugs to make more money.
Yeah, I'm optimistic - I've never been good about taking my shots, and the last four months I haven't been able to afford it. With any luck these oral DMDs will be cheaper, as well as easier to take.
