I would have to assume both the MRI and LP are to assess and differentiate between MS and disc disease/damage. How fortunate that you found this surgeon who really took a good look at YOU before just changing ahead with surgery. I suppose there are pros and cons to either diagnosis so it's hard to pick a preference. It's always best to have actual facts as early as possible though.
While you're waiting for test results, I suggest you take a look at the Health Pages and educate yourself as much as possible about this potential new diagnosis. We'll be glad to listen to your thoughts or help with any questions that crop up.
Welcome and good luck,
Mary
I totally agree- this surgeon went with a gut instinct and possibly saved me from months or years of not being diagnosed properly. In that sense- I am blessed. I am a Registered Nurse- a little embarrased by the fact that I don't know more about MS than I do. I've just never studied it enough to be on top of it! I am so glad I have found this site- even as a nurse, I'm sure I still have the same questions and fears as everyone else!
