Nothing to do with Ms

Been feeling really bad in last 2 weeks; nausea, fatigue, lack of appetite (6 lbs down in about 2 weeks), tummy pains.

Saw Dr on Sun and had ultrasound on Monday, results today and referred to gastro who thinks I have gall stones/sludge (mind you this was in a 10 min consult, no history, and no examination, no checking for differentials - the pain is not typical location or pattern for gall bladder problems, even considering the U/S findings - and she didn't look at the U/s pictures, only the report. No further testing for anything else.

Then she told me several times surgery is my only option, though it is an elective surgery.  No way!!! Geez, I don't want to remove any body part without good reason. And not on the basis of a 10 min consult.   See not only neurologists need to be roasted!

I will try to wait this out and I sure won't be seeing her again!

Everything else is exaccerbated with this (visual symptoms and burning sensations, fatigue).... hope it all passes soon.

I had my gall bladder removed 2  years ago due to stones.  I went through several attacks prior to this though and once went to ER and while the woman in the bed next to me had an U/S and she revealed stones and had emergency surgery, I was given some sort of concoction that resembled Maalox and sent home.  Hubby had to carry me to the car because the pain was so bad and U/S next a.m. showed stones and I had gall bladder out the next week.  The pain was in the centre of my stomach, between and lower than bust line.

Also had appendicitis and emerg appendectomy years ago and the pain was lower right quadrant and it was also excrutiating.

I think getting a second opinion would be your best bet and if it gets really bad honey...go to ER and insist on an U/S...good luck my dear and let us know how you make out ok?

Lots of hugs,

Rena

Thanks.  I am also concerned that the gall bladder findings are incidental and not the cause of how I'm feeling.

I'm on zantac now (high dose) for allergies, but it also has an acid blocking effect.

Will go find another doctor for second opinion if this continues.  Am worried for somethign like appendicitis.  Pain is widespread, but now has a mid-low right focal point.

Pain is still there - bearable, but not at all comfortable.  Nausea is increasing again (I ate this morning).

I had gallstones years ago and had my gallbladder removed eventually. My symptoms from that were gas attacks at first for about a month off and on and then pain, wow talk about pain. I have a strong threshold to pain, but these attacks literally dropped me to my knees. I found that any kind of ruffage, (lettuce etc.) beans and especially pork would cause me an attack.

I would get sick to my stomach from the pain and lost 30lbs in in less than 2 months when it got really bad with attacks almost every other day.

What you are describing does not sound like gallbladder to me unless you only have a stone or two and they are really small. I would definitely get a second opinion before contemplating surgery.

Hope you feel better soon,
Hugs

Hi,

Sorry you are not feeling well!  I have had episodes like this and had an endoscopy / colonoscopy that showed some mild small bowel irritation at the duodenum.

Have you tried Prilosec or any of the new meds they have for these symptoms?   I started the Prilosec and it took about 3 days but eventually I felt better.

My best friend is actually going through the same thing right now and is trying to figure it out.  She thinks she might have an MSG sensitivity as she feels the same way as you after she eats takeout.  It seams to start her episodes and then it takes her 4-5 days to recover.

Glad your not going back to that doctor - she sounds surgery happy!!

I hope you start feeling better soon!
