question about lumbar puncture side affects

Since yesterday, when I had my lumbar puncture, I can't seem to stay awake for an hour, if that, then fall right back to sleep. I am always fatigued but this is ridiculous. Do you think this has anything to do with the lumbar puncture?

Thanks Red, I will call him tomorrow. My leg keeps giving out on me when I am walking now too. I have brought out the cane just to get around my apartment.

I am really hoping it is just due to the LP yesterday but if not then I will have to deal with it anyway.

As for the sleeping, believe me when I say that I have been sleeping trying to get it to go away lol, that is all I have done is sleep. Today is a little better, well not sure if it is better or I am just forcing to make myself stay awake more today.

Hi Paula,

Although your pain may not be related, I think it's important to call and tell your doctor about.  Then he/she can decide what to do.  I have heard that you can have some leakage but don't know much beyond that.

As far as the sleep,  I just think you should sleep and sleep until you feel rested.  Maybe your body is just letting you know it's time to stop for a while.

Thanks Alex, I also have another question. Not sure if it is related to the LP but here goes.....

since the LP yesterday I have been having some serious sharp pain in my hip. I will be sitting here and all of a sudden it hits and my whole body straightens and tightens up like I have been stabbed or somethng.

Does this sound like it could be related? Maybe they hit a nerve or is it just another symptom that has all of a sudden developed?

An LP in more traumatic than a blood draw. For each person it can take days or weeks to recover. It took me two weeks. I did feel slight improvement everyday. The first week was tough.

I found I slept more than normal for about 3 days after.  Even though an LP can be relatively painless it is still a shock to the body.  You are going into the central nervous system and pulling out fluid.

I would call the doctor about it just to check things out.  I stayed down for about 3 days and I did sleep. i don't think you have to worry about anything though.

If you are really not able to stay awake, I'd call the doctor, just to check in on this issue.  I had that problem, but I also had a spinal headache for 5 days afterward, so I suspect my drowsiness was related to the pain.

Hi there

im no dr but had my LP last week - i felt no after effects at all.
Personally i dont think your tiredness is due to LP, contributing factors like working yourself up in your mind anxiety and then relief when its over could make u relax more - makin it seems like u more tired..
