One-sided weakness

Hello all,

I am 32 yrs old male; Two months back I started a pulling sensation in my face (left sided) and couldnt open my mouth fully because of this pulling sensation.. I went to several doctors and at last one doctor said, I am suffering from parotitis ( mumps ) (but to note that I dont have big swelling of my face) and sunmandibular adenitis and prescribed me heavy antibiotics, which made me very weak; and then I consulted another doctor and he said I should not take antibiotics as mumps is a virus infection and since I took heavy antibiotics I got weak, so he asked me to stop the antibiotics and take complete rest and have orange juice. I used to have orange juice regularly (4-5 times per day), but i didnt get cured. Then when I was browsing 1 month back i found citrus fruit will aggravate parotitis (mumps)...

After these all started I started to have LEFT SIDE NUMBNESS AND CHILLS AND SWEATS (ONLY ON LEFT SIDE)....

i have been admitted to the hospital and they have done every test on me (MRI, EEG, ECG, carotid doppler, angiography, blood tests, x-rays etc., etc., I consulted more than 3 neurologists and everybody says that You have some anatomic disorder which is causing this and it will automatically get cured... but my weakness and pain and sweat and chills in the left side is getting worse day by day...

Now what happened was, another doctor found that I do have my third molar tooth infection, and he said my wisdom teeth should be removed on both sides....

Please someone help me that whether any one of you have these symptoms because of your tooth infection...(left-sided weakness and numbness)...

Now the chills and sweats are reduced somewhat, but weakness and pain and numbness in the left side has not gone... and please someone say if you took antibiotics, do you feel these symptoms.. someone please help.. thanks in advance....

Hi and welcome to our little corner of the web.

I'm sorry for what you experience and even though i'm not confindent I can be of any help, i'll still try to give you something, though dont expect it to be much!

I noticed you are from India and i'm of the understanding that MS is rather a rare disease in the Indian population, which greatly reduces the odds that its MS. I think its important to know exactly what all your test results found, I expect if you were dx with Mumps the test results would of been why that dx, was there any other abnormalities found on any of the other tests?

It apears that facial palsy is possible with mumps but again it apears to be an uncommon sx, this is regarding children with mumps but it may be relivant enough see......

http://www.neurologyindia.com/article.asp?issn=0028-3886;year=2009;volume=57;issue=4;spage=511;epage=512;aulast=Incecik

"The incidence of facial palsy with mumps parotitis is unknown, but the association appears to be rare. Saunders and Lippy [4] first described four patients with facial palsy associated with mumps virus infection in 1959. Pang et al ., [5] Endo et al ., [1] Beardwell [2] and Pang et al ., [5] have reported facial palsy associated with mumps parotitis in the literature. Facial palsy developed three to nine days after onset of mumps parotitis in these patients. Similarly, facial palsy developed seven and 10 days later in our patients and recovered completely after two and three months respectively. "

This is a medical site and it lists 'all' sx associated with mumps, which is quite extensive please see....

Cheers...........JJ
