Possible MS

For the past 7 years I have had neurological symptoms. First I started getting a flash of tingling in both hands at the exact same time for a split second in both hands. Since it is such a transitory sensation it's hard to say if it comes and goes, it just happens every once in a while. About a year later my back started getting sore, some fatigue and neck stiffness.  For about a week this was a problem then went away. During this time dizzyness.  I had another situation but milder about a year and a half after that. Subsequently I have had 2 recurrences of neck pain and fatigue but fair to mild with no progression as I would expect from MS. The tingling of my hands still happens every once in a while and 100% the time it's both hands at the exact same time for a split second. It seems like stress and in one occasion physical excertion initiated symptoms. I went to 3 neuros and each one did tests, 1 Brain MRI w/contrast (while I was having symptoms) with negative results. All neuros say I probably don't have MS, but this has been an issue for 7 years now with no progression. I hear that it isn't common for MS to give symptoms on both sides (hands) at the same time. And when I hear people complain about their tingling sensations I am confused as to whether it is a split second sensation or continual.  I have not had a spine MRI.  I have had 3 neuro tests done and no abnormalities mentioned. I find 7 years a long time to be still wondering what is going on. But this has been very strange and for the most part mild compared to what I have been reading here. Fatigue has interfered with my ability to function during the day a few times.

Welcome,

When I started out with numbness,it was right foot, then the calf as time has passed it is now in the left calf and the finger tips on the left hand are numb and occassionly the right finger tips will be numb.I have the tingling and its basically present everyday, some days its less than others. Its confinded to my legs, but during flair-ups its present in the hands.

I would strongly suggest a MRI of you c-spine,what you are describing could becaused by many disorders, pinched nerve, low B-12 and so forth.

Get copies of your medical records and see what the reports state.Sometimes neuro's are not the most forth coming when test results may be inconclusive.

With MS it's an individual disease,it like a finger print,we all can have similiar symptoms but vary to degree's and not everyone will have several symptoms. There's a whole laundry list of symptoms.

If these symptoms are persistant, further your quest for a proper DX,but I would really get the C-spine checked.

Hi Chris
I'm sorry you are having these problems and for so long.  When my symptoms first started I had numbness in my left arm first.  It lasted about a week and then it moved to my leg.  A couple of weeks later it started on the right side.  Now it's all over.

When you hear people talking about the numbness and tingeling sensations it usually is both hands and feet, but it initially started on just one side.  Most of the time anyway.

I'm no expert.  In fact I was just recently diagnosed and I'm scared to death but that's how mine started.

I hope this helps some and I'll pray you get a diagnosis soon or at least some relief.

Carol
