Pain in the left eye end phosphenes

About 2 weeks ago I started experiancing eyr pain when I move my eye left and right up and down. Shortly after I started noticing small blue dots in my vision particularily when I would come out of a dark room into the light room. Few days later i noticed a strong light in the corner of my left eye, the pain when moving my eye was still present. Few days after that i felt pain when i touch my eyeball na dthe light  ( phosphene) moved acros my whole vision so I have difficulty reading,.It looks like I have been staring at the sun for a long time and everything seems very bright. I have difficulty reading because of the strong light in that eye. I went to the hospital and eye MD checked my vision and my eye. He concluded that I have 20% vision loss in that eye and that the eye is healthy. He said that he suspects ocular migraine or optical nerve inflamation. He was leaning more towards the migraine he said because my vision loss is not as severe as it should be if I had nerve inflamation. I do have migraines sometimes and know that they only last up to 3 days but I have  difficulty excepting that this is ocular migraine that lasts 2 weeks. Please help me I am very scared!

I saw a neuro-opth and asked her if an ocular migraine could last that long. Her response was yes.

I'm having similar issues right now and on prednisone to clear up the blurred vision. When I taper down 10mg, the blurring comes back within a couple of days.

Neuro-opth and GP don't think it's optic neuritis, and the VEP is tomorrow. I would highly recommend a neuro-opth if you can find one. I saw a regular opth for this back in October and she didn't find anything wrong. Two months later, I couldn't see to drive because of the blurring in both eyes.

Mine started similarly to yours back in July/August of last year. It appeared occasionally throughout those months, cleared up in October and November, then came back after Thanksgiving. Right after Christmas was when it got really bad.

It's best to see them when you're symptomatic if you can get in. Best to become a patient now, even if vision does clear up. Trust me on that one. ;-)

It does sound like an ocular migraine, not optic neuritis.

I'd  be surprised if it was optic neuritis and lasted for two weeks with pain.  If a Neuro-Ophthalmologist (a Neurologist with a subspecialty in Ophthalmology) is available, you might want to seek their opinion.  A Visual Evoked Potential (VEP or in some places called a VER Visually Evoked Response) test would rapidly determine if this is Optic Neuritis.

Optic Neuritis is usually 2-3 days of pain followed by dimming of vision and loss of visual acuity and color perception.  If your VEP is abnormal, the next step would be an a complete Neurologic exam and MRI of the brain.
