I saw a neuro-opth and asked her if an ocular migraine could last that long. Her response was yes.
I'm having similar issues right now and on prednisone to clear up the blurred vision. When I taper down 10mg, the blurring comes back within a couple of days.
Neuro-opth and GP don't think it's optic neuritis, and the VEP is tomorrow. I would highly recommend a neuro-opth if you can find one. I saw a regular opth for this back in October and she didn't find anything wrong. Two months later, I couldn't see to drive because of the blurring in both eyes.
Mine started similarly to yours back in July/August of last year. It appeared occasionally throughout those months, cleared up in October and November, then came back after Thanksgiving. Right after Christmas was when it got really bad.
It's best to see them when you're symptomatic if you can get in. Best to become a patient now, even if vision does clear up. Trust me on that one. ;-)
It does sound like an ocular migraine, not optic neuritis.
I'd be surprised if it was optic neuritis and lasted for two weeks with pain. If a Neuro-Ophthalmologist (a Neurologist with a subspecialty in Ophthalmology) is available, you might want to seek their opinion. A Visual Evoked Potential (VEP or in some places called a VER Visually Evoked Response) test would rapidly determine if this is Optic Neuritis.
Optic Neuritis is usually 2-3 days of pain followed by dimming of vision and loss of visual acuity and color perception. If your VEP is abnormal, the next step would be an a complete Neurologic exam and MRI of the brain.
