blurry eyes

I was reading Sarahsmoms post and it reminded me of a question I have...for a very long time my eyes have been bad, blurry and can't see well.  In the meantime I have had cateract surgery which did not really help.  I do have 20/20 vision now but my eyes don't seem to know that.

I have no idea what causes this..but will check with my MS doc when i see her.  It just seems like it must be the MS....

anyone understand this malfunction ??

hugs, meg

I was just told by my neuro yesterday that if I ever feel that I am having ON don't take oral steroids prescribed by the Opthamologist - only IV steroids.  I guess that a study showed that oral can cause more ON in the future.  Just a little info for you guys in the future.

Meg, as with most flares, I am sure that your vision will improve once this flare up subsides.  Glass half full right?

Praying for ya!

Yes your eyes will get worse during a flare and also with medications. I was told that depending on the dosage of meds you make take that this side effect may last up to several days. I hope this was helpful.

I am just getting over pneumonia, and I am experiencing a flare up...my eyes are so bad right now.   I always have bad eyes, could they just be worse due to the flare ?

thanks, meg

Sometimes when I get sick, it'll throw me into a flare - that might be what you're going through.  If I have a fever, it'll cause Urthoff's, which makes my vision blurry.

Right now its so much worse, I can't even read in the morning and it doesnt get much better during the day either..

I am not sure if its because of the pneumonia or not but my whole body is weak right now....
its a different than just weak..it feels like my muscles are rebelling and I can barely lift myself up..

@deb,no,  I have not been diagnosed for ON

OMG, I have been having this problem as well. I just recently had to see the SSD doctor for an exam to stay on ssd, and during my eye test, I had the most difficult time.
First of all, I wear a prism in the right side of my glasses for the double vision.
I had to stand in a hallway to look at the board for the vision test. She told me to keep my glasses on and close my left eye.
Well,,,,, when I close my left eye, I tip over, so I said I can't. Then, she said, cover it, but when I did, my prism (which is much clearer with both eyes open) was nothing but a bunch of lines in my way to see the chart. I said again, I can't see it. I took my glasses off, and still couldn't see it. She was like, " Can you at least see the top  line " (in an angry voice)
I said to her, this is very difficult for me. I really am having a hard time. I don't know what to say, My vision goes from bad one day to not so bad (still bad) another day. I have gone from 20/70 in 2007 to 20/40 in 2008. Recently my eye tests have been fluctuating between 20/40 to 20/30 in my right eye.
It is very hard to focus. When I go to read something, I have to pull it away, pull it close and pull it away or turn it at a different angle before it seems like its in a good position. It's embarrassing to look at a menu at a restaurant, especially if the lighting is bad.

I miss my eyes and having good vision.

Yes.  I have blurry vision and it is worse since summer time.  For me, it's Uhtohoff's.  I've seen the opthalmologist several times, and every single time everything checks out okay.  What is weird is that the letters on the chart are blurry at first until I look at them for a few seconds.  Then, my brain registers what I'm seeing.

Have you had ON before?

I have had my vision go from 20/20 to 20/40 and back over a 4 month period as noted by my Neuro ( they check my vision @ every Appointment ) . It is a MS issue and my understanding is that just like MS can weaken a leg it can weaken your eyes so that they don't focus correctly.
