Pain with injections

Has anybody else noticed that when they get an injection, or someone tries to take blood from a limb that they have issues with the nerves, it is excruciating?

I was given an injection when I was carted off to hospital a few weeks ago and just about jumped off the bed, and I noticed when I had blood drawn from the same arm a couple of days ago, the pain was terrible.

I'm just interested to know whether this is a 'common' thing when there is a nerve problem, or whether it's just me??

Many thanks

Poppy

Properly done, a blood draw or injection should be almost completely painless. Easier said than done. The concept of performing this procedure painlessly has not been conveyed to everyone in the medical profession unfortunately. Some people "just don't get it". Don't be afraid to tell someone if an injection or blood draw was painful or complement them when it was not. An arterial blood gas, drawn from the wrist, can be excruciatingly painful if not performed properly. It pays to look away or close your eyes.

If I get injections in my right arm it sets off the Ulna nerve, the funny bone. No problems with blood draws though. It is only the right arm for me.
