Why withold results?

You guys were so kind to tell me how to obtain my test results but I assume I am from the wrong planet it or something. I would have had better luck requesting secret documents from the cia! I was able to get a copy of both Mri's and xrays. However, when I called to request the vep & ssep, my md told me I had to get tehm from the neuro., when I called the neuro's office they told me that the neuro would go over them with me at the end of December or I could request them from the records department at the hospital. However, the lady in records told me that they supply those to the neuro and if he wanted me to have a copy he would supply them. Now I certainly do not want to sound like some impatient child, that is not my purpose. My symptoms seem to be worse some days and better others, however my facial and head numbness continue to stay the same. So here is my thought, if these results showed ms of any sort-no one has called to tell me. So it could be something else. And in that case should they not call me or my md so that we can take another route? or is that not how this works? Am i safe to say that once a neuro takes your case, you are on their terms till the final diagnosis? Cause my md sure seems to put complete trust in anything he says.   So sorry for rambling but I am done for now. Any imput would be great if anyone would like. Even if it is to tell me to just relax and not to read too much into anything.   thanks! take care all!

I have had the same problem with the neuro I was seeing and trying to get the complete labs from the hospital and I know it is the law they have to give them to you they are yours you paid for it.  Just go and sign the medical release form like they are saying and they should give them to you. You are entitled to your results.  Go back to the lady in records and ask her to give you the form to sign for release of your records to you.  It is usually called a health information release form or release of medical records form.  If she doesn't give it to you, ask her for the medical records supervisor for the medical center.  Believe me, you will get them.  And if by some chance you do not get them from the supervisor,  then tell them you are going home to call your state senator and have them help you get the records.  Be sure to get everyone's name.  that will also usually get you the records..  I think if you try these things, you will get the results.  Those people need to be educated on the law.  Good Luck.

I won't speculate on whether or not to read into this set-up some hidden agenda. Don't know about that. But I WILL say that you are entitled to your medical records. It's the law.

Often the buck is passed around, each one telling you to go somewhere else, why I don't know. Sometimes testing labs supply records only to the doctors ordering the tests. If your neuro has the reports, absolutely insist on a copy. This of course might sabotage the relationship you have with him, but the bottom line is that they have to comply.

They might charge you for them though. I'm in process of changing neuros (again), so they have faxed everything onward. I requested my own copies, and was told there's a charge of $19 plus 25 cents a page. One more aggravation.

If you're changing doctors I suggest you pursue this now. If not, maybe waiting a month isn't so bad.
