Question about leg pain....

I was wondering...this afternoon, my left leg which has been giving me pain for months now...all the sudden...the pain was gone...and I felt like it was apart of my body again... I walked around the house abit and felt really good...I actually started to think...maybe this is all in my mind...(my MS specialist appt is next Friday)...

but by 4:00 in the afternoon, the pain started up again...and the numbness... it's back...I felt so bad that it came back, yet I felt it can't be in my mind...so does this happen...

after months of having pain for it to stop for a few hours...and come back??

thanks for any replies..

I didn't answer this, because I didn't have a medical answer for you.  But, from my experience things that have bothered me for weeks and months (like my dizziness and the raoring in my head) do occsaionally just leave.  Often it is in the middle of the night when I have been sleeping and there is not sound around me and no lights flashing and nothing around me moving.  I will feel really normal for a few hours, but the longer I am awake, the more it all comes back.

I think that when the sensations leave suddenly, and long enough to give us hope that the improvement might be permanent, we get so hopeful.  It's been so long since we really had hope that they will improve.  Then when it all comes back, the pain seems like a cruel joke.  Disappointment is so very hard to deal with.  When there is some depression already laying a foundation, we can lose it - Big Time.

I'm so sorry you were teased this way.  I do think that it is far more indicative of a true neurologic disorder than it is that you are imagining anything.  Don't ever let anyone convince you it's all in your head.  that is the answer of a lazy doctor and of unimaginative frends.

I hope this helps.  It's not medical fact, but it is the way I see the world.

Dear silver friend,

Do you think we ever really get used to the discomfort in our legs? - I mean to the point that we just forget they hurt and then when the pain stops  it is such an odd feeling it is extremely different.  Does that make sense?

I have had the numb and pained lower right leg and my big toe for over a year. I've just grown accustomed to it I think.

Here's to more painless days,
Laura

I can only speak for me, but my bone pain is like the inside of the long bones are being drilled out. I don't experience much pain in the short bones.. Muscle pain is much different, it's like a charlie horse that won't go away. More like cramps. I know it is different for everyone.
Please do try to keep a record, and don't give up.. I always say "some day it will be "Tomorrow" and I'll feel better..." Know that I am keeping you in my thoughts and Prayers....(((((~!~))))

thanks for the answers...it's just so weird for it to stop after months of having it..well..it was good for a few hours...

my pain is most of the day, but alot worse in the evenings and bedtime.  I started the 300mg of Gabapentin, a few days ago and take two Tyn 3s at bedtime..it helps me sleep... otherwise the pain keep me and my husband up most of the night.

I think this is muscle pain..but don't know sometimes...the inside of my calf can feel so cold with pain...and I don't know if that would be bone pain?  I will have to write all this down...thanks again
have a good day..
take care

There will be times when you don't seem to have symptoms. and as suddenly as they went away, they come back.. I am not sure if you are having muscle pain or bone pain, it was explained to me years ago that the bone pain is caused from the lack of muscle support and the muscle pain is caused by spasms and also muscle fatigue. I know this doesn't really help you a whole Lot. If you can keep a record of your symptoms, time of day, what you were doing, When it seems to be worse or better. This information will be useful to your Doctor.
I am so sorry the pain came back... I hope you feel better soon...Hugs on the winds from me to you...

Hi, I'm sorry to hear that it came back.  I know exactly what you mean,  I have had numbness and pain in my left leg for sooo long that I could'nt remember the last time that it felt normal.  Oddly enough, just last week, I had about four good days!  I could'nt believe it, and like you thought mabey it isnt ms.  Then it came back and reality set in again.  I think sometimes everything is in the right order within our bodies and we get a brief look at the way we were, then it all goes wonky again.

I'm glad that you posted too because I think that I read somwhere that you are going on gabapentin?  I am on it, it works pretty good and I've had no side effects.  Actually, I find that one gabapentin, one amytripteline, and two tylenol threes before bed works well for me at night.  The pain and numbness is worse for me then, or mabey it just seems worse because I'm not paying attention to anything els!

Hope this helps
