REVERSING WORDS???? please help

Hi,

I'm having a terrible time with word recall,,,, and reversing my words... like instead of saying "OK" I've said KO"
instead of saying "Is that game fun"  it came out "Is that fun game"?  and so on and so on and so on,,

I'm wondering is this ms or could it be dyslexia?  at age 37?

please tell me if any body else has these symptoms??

I also have word retrieval and word reversal issues and I do not have MS.  At times I sound like Yoda.  It's okay around family and friends, but it is uncomfortable around strangers.

Rebeccah's suggestion sounds like a very good one, and given that you are so young and all of this is relatively new a journal could be very helpful.

Good luck to you on Monday.  Sorry about your mix up, but thank goodness you weren't a week late!!!

Best to you...
Wanna

Vocabulary problems are a common MS symptom.  I've reversed words and phrases, lost words I was looking for, misused words when I meant to say something else...  I still have problems typing - I'll get the letters in the wrong order, or type a different word entirely.

I don't know anything about dyslexia, but your symptoms certainly could be an MS thing. I've been known to use the wrong words, use words in the wrong order, slur, etc. Along the same lines, in the exacerbation that led to my diagnois, I would be typing along as I took notes of phone conversations and it was like I was in beginning typing again, going slow and repeatedly having to back up to redo letters and words.

It's frustrating, but somehow we muddle through it!

I can relate to your speech problems Ray and like you I have problems including word retrieval and slurring of my speech.  Speechgeek has some good advice there and this should be included in your daily journal of symptoms.

I am still waiting to see if I am going to actually have a neuropsych consult as my dr. often suggests things but doesn't come through so time will tell.  These symptoms need to be documented by you and your dr. though.

Lots of Hugs,

Rena

Hey Ray

I am speech therapist.  It’s not uncommon for folks with neurological issues to have word retrieval problems. If you have lesions and depending on where they are that could have some impact.

The fact you are trying to find the word can explain some of the word order being incorrect or it could be some motor planning issues . Most people do not realize that a lot disorders start with subtle speech and swallowing problems.

I would suggest keeping a journal and if it persists and gets worse I would ask for speech and language evaluation or neuro psychology testing this can be beneficial information and also establish a baseline.

Hang in there

Rebeccah

Ray, I have no dx yet but made mention of the word recall to my neuro 8 months ago. It did'nt seem to phase her. I have problems saying what I want to say. I have the word or thought in my head but it gets lost going to my lips. It is very fustrating. I make oral presentations at work a couple times a month and have come to dread them.
