I haven't been dx, but yes I have severe pain in my ribs. Mine is mostly in the right side, but sometimes it is all the way around my midriff. I have been sitting at my desk for the past couple of days doing paperwork, and last night and today the pain is really bad.
This area of pain only started about a couple of months ago. Does yours ever get so bad it is hard to breath? I have had this happen a couple of times just recently.
Doni
Hi Doni, and thanks for replying.
I wake up at night with a terrible pain mainly on my upper right ribs. My dr says it is because of a cervical stem lesion... Since right now I'm 6 months pregnant, they can't give me anything for pain relief.
Why don't you visit a doctor?
K
I don't know if this is what you are talking about or not but I have wondered what is going on with me. Sometimes I get severe pain under my ribs on the right side right around the gall bladder area. I have no gall bladder so I know that is not where the pain is coming from.
It happens if I am laying down and move too sharply or have taken a deep breath. I have often wondered if I have a gas bubble or something. It feels like a knife that is hooked under my ribs. It takes my breath away and I have to be very careful not to breath too deeply.
It has gotten bad enough I thought I might need to go to the ER. It lasts a few minutes and then goes away. My grandma thought it might be plurasy. (not sure on that spelling)
Is that simular to what you are talking about? I have never mentioned it to my doctor.

I have visited drs on many occasions in the past few years only to be dismissed. I searched many times on the net, but could never find anything with all my symptoms. Looked at RA, Lupus, Fibro, etc.
I just went on about my business, until I caught a talk show one day with the subject of MS. I sat down and began listening to the guests symptoms. It was like someone had slapped me in the face! I had never once considered my problems might stem from MS.
Well, needless to say, I did a search and read for days about MS. It was a shock, but I identified with so many of the symtoms. Finally I could understand what had been happening to me over the years. I may not have MS, but I have stated many times that if it isn't, then it is a twin sister. I continued searching the net for someone to do a deeper explanation and I was blessed to find this site, with all these amazingly wonderful people.
I went again to my GP and she did blood tests, the findings were my B12 was a little low. She put me on injections of B12. I took a few of them and ended up with the tremors so bad I had to quit taking it.
I find myself without health insurance (my husband and I are home builders and self emloyed), and without the financial means to afford it at the moment. I don't want to start this process until I have medical coverage. Hopefully we will be able to get medical coverage shortly, I have the applications filled out, just don't have the spare monies right now. Two sons in college and a daughter we are having to help out financially.
Good luck with your baby, I am sorry you are going thru all this during your pregnancy, it has to be really hard for you. Maybe your dr could help you find something that might ease the pain without medication.

Yes, a week or so ago on Sat., I was hurting so bad I almost went to the ER. I don't know about the plurasy, I have posted about this rib pain before and there are others here who also have this symtom. I don't remember if it was someone dx with MS, or one of us undxed. It has been a while back now, but I will try to locate it and bump it back up.
I would mention it to your dr, as he needs to know everything that is happening to you.
Both of you take care and I hope things improve for you.
Doni
Hi Doni,
Thank you. I hope you can get an answer for yourself soon. I sure understand about not having insurance! We would be a in deep trouble right now if we didn't have insurance.
My husband had major surgery on his foot this summer and so far the bills are over 30,000.00! That does not include my 2 MRI's and the testing I have had done.
I feel terrible for thoses who don't have some kind of coverage.

Sorry about your MS DX. Most women actually do better with there MS while pregnant. Has your dr rule out any pregnant related problems with the ribe pain? I am not sure what your pain is like but with my last pregnancy I devoloped this pain around my ribes that was very sharp and was 1000xs worse when I hit bumps while driving. It was overlooked as was my other things. I had HEELP Syndrome which was left untreated until it was so bad that I went into Heart, Liver, and kidney failure and had pulmonary edema. I was on a vent longer than my baby. (He is wonderfully healthy now and 2 years old). If you have any swelling I would ask the dr about pre-eclampsia. Good Luck.
Also, I get migranes that are worse while I am pregnant because I can't take the meds to prevent them but my dr prescribe a pain medicine that worked and it didn't effect the baby and it didn't leave my loopy. I am very senstive to pain meds so this was great.
I have that! Exactly! When I get it and laugh or try to inhale deeply it feels like someon is poking em with a knife and my rib is going to snap off! I've never mentioned it to a Dr. and I've always kind of laughed it off myself as it never lasts more than a few minutes....but yes....I do know exactly what you're talking about.
Whew....glad to know I'm not insane after all *smile*
Jolene
If you are insane so am I! Does it stop you in your tracks? I mean, are you afraid to move or breath because the pain is so intense?
I have wondered if it might be a gas bubble getting hung up under my ribs. Don't know if that is possible though. I know it is not my gall bladder because that has been gone for 23 years!~
L
Exactly the same, don't want to talk or move and have to breathe very shallow until it passes or in some cases 'pops' where I'm SURE it broke a rib!
I just close my eyes, stop what I'm doing and stand very still; I could only think it was air too, gas or something I just could never figure out where it came fom. It doesn't feel like an organ at all to me as it seems to 'move' into place where it wedges itself in my ribs so I feel like I'm going to just die it hurts so bad.
But then it's gone and there's no residual pain or anything!
Jo
I too am not diagnosed but have experienced the exact same thing. Mine is on the left. I can hardly breathe as the pain is so bad. I never told the neuro this as I didn't even think it had anything to do with what is going on with me. That and I figured he would just think it was something else I was complaining about. I get the pop too most times. And yes after there is no residual pain or soreness. When it's over it is just over. Hey great to know I'm not a freak.LOL
Moki
It seems like I'm having exactly the same as all of you...
It hurts so bad. I wake up at night with this terrible pain. It started on the right side, but now it has spread to both sides.
It's good to know you're not alone.
My pregnancy has improved most of my symptoms (I could barely use a pencil 3 months ago...).
Thanks everybody and good luck,
Karina
Yes, that is it exactly! Hmmm, wonder what it is.

I am curerently going through some pretty scarry stuff(possibly have bresat cancer) an I have had this awful pain that starts under my ribs. the only way to accuratly describe it is.. a 6 inch ice pick being stabbed into my body lower rib area intrance point. some times it come for no reason at all. an sometimes when i move or roll over in bed. i ended up in the hosp 4 days trying to find out this pain . doctors couldnt figure it out, but they did find that i have a possible breast cancer. I was really starting to freak out cause i thought maybe this pain was from cancer.. but after reading your post. i am comforted knowing its just my ms acting stupid...thanks again. u have made my day a little better
I'm so glad you're back with us. Please tell us how it went with your final diagnosis and how you've been doing. Yes, the severe chest pains are common. I pray you're not fighting breast cancer with this! We do want to hear from you! Quix

Hi, Nice to meet you...
I also without insurance to do futher testing , have been diagnosed with Possible MS...
I can defenitley relate to rib pain. I posted about a month ago, the same thing....
After researching this is what i found....I think we may be experiencing...
MS HUG... Caused by a lesion on the spinal cord & is technically classified as a neuropathic pain called a "paresthesia" . The sensation itself is the result of tiny muscles between each rib....( Itercostal Muscles) going into spasm..
I have this rib pain right under my left breast ..I can rub the area and its so tender and painful right between the rib area, I have had EKG'S , you name it, trying to find out whats causing this pain
SO, I think What i am experiencing is this MS HUG... I do know it is very uncomfortable.....
Also Ihurt around to my shoulder blade....
I hope this Info Helps....
Hello, I just found this site. I have been diagnosed with MS for 4 yrs now. I have been VERY lucky that the Avonex injections have slowed down the process some. I do gradually get new symptoms but forget to consider they may be MS symptoms. My newest one is the ribs. I had a sore area and discovered two of my lower ribs on the right side are hurting and you can see a bump where they stick out. I went to a massage therapist to see if she could help. She told me feels like there are two ribs bunched together and that she could not do anything. My question is ...has anyone that has had the "MS Rib Pain" aever been able to see the ribs sticking out? thank you for your info.

Hello and welcome. You have posted at the end of a very old thread, where fewer people are likely to see it and respond. If you will, please start a new thread and tell us a bit more about you and MS. You'll find us a friendly bunch.
Meanwhile, I have just added to a thread about rib pain. You should find the discussion near the top of the page. I have never heard of MS causing adhesions, which is what you may be describing. If you have trouble taking a deep breath or have any similar problems, I suggest you ask first for a chest xray. You need to get a diagnosis and help with your pain, which may or may not be a part of MS.
