Hi Bucky this was an older post of mine but i am off the rebif now due to the large welts i am now on tysabri just haf number 3 last week and so far so good
Thank you
Kat
I HAVE BEEN USING REBIF FOR 12 YEARS NOW. I WAS VERY ANXIOUS WHEN I FIRST STARTED GIVING MYSELF THE INJECTIONS.I HATED IT.BUT THROUGH TALKING TO MYSELF, OUT LOUD AT TIMES,I EVENTUALLY RELAXED. I STOPPED THE WHOLE ICING THE INJECTION SITE AND JUST SUCKED IT UP.I STILL HAVE THE 10 SECONDS OF BURNING AFTER THE SHOT-BUT JUST RUB IT AFTER AND THAT HELPS.I ALSO TAKE 2 RR TYELNOL A HALF HOUR BEFORE THE SHOT AND DO THE SHOT RIGHT WHEN I GET INTO BED AT 10 PM.IF I DON'T DO THE TYELNOL, I HAVE FLU SYMPTOMS 2 HOURS LATER AND FEEL PRETTY AWFUL THE NEXT DAY OR SO
thank you all for the words of encouragement I will try the hot compress I have tried ice and that doesnt seem to help but I will keep doing the injections and hope it gets better
Kat
I hate it too, although I've only been on it for 6 weeks. My nurse told me to put a hot compress on the injection site for 5 mins before injecting and then again after injecting. Of course take meds like Tylenol 30-60 mins b4 injecting. She also told me to massage the site after the hot compress after injecting.
I hope some of this helps. I doesn't for me, but maybe it will for you or someone else. I'm just determined to stick with it. I've already been on copaxone, and I'd really rather not switch again unless absolutely necessary!
Good luck and keep your head up!
Laura
While I have had large red marks appear a day or so after injecting, they only stay a couple days, and I don't get the bump, just the red mark.
It took me about a year before the aches and chills didn't affect me much. I take 2 Tylenol extra strength 30 minutes before injecting, and I always inject shortly before going to bed at night. I still occasionally get aches and chills, but much less than I used to.
I've been using Rebif for 2 years now.
The burning is something I still experience, although it stops as soon as the injection is completed. The one time I injected fridge cold Rebif it burned more than ever, so I always keep a weeks supply at room temperature. Very rarely I'm surprised by a completely pain free injection, but I have no idea what I've done differently than usual.
I've got no real answers for you, but I do offer my support.
Good luck,
Mike
I take Copaxone but it is also a subcutaneous injection DMD and must sit at room temp at least 20 minutes before injecting. Like Mike, I keep several days worth of doses unrefrigerated. I'd caution against injecting Rebif cold even though I don't remember it being mentioned specifically here before - Thanks Mike :) I hope others who are taking Rebif will stop by to encourage you as well.
Since you are in danger of discontinuing treatment PLEASE call your injection training nurse or the Rebif toll-free phone number. Sometimes a review of technique in those first weeks after starting injections helps tremendously. We can take in more information once we've had a little experience and practice!
Finally, remember the words of a fine member of this community who shared this with us:
"So after I think 7 years in limbo 8 or 9 neuro's I hope my
journey is ending in limbo and off to start a new adventure
with treatment and improvement.
Never give up keep searching for someday you should get
your answers!!!!"
Remember? Hang in there woman!
