So the Aspertame and MS articles are circulating again

Just got a call from a good friend.  I found a cure for your MS - stop drinking diet soda!!  If only it were that easy!   I drink possibly one diet soda a week!  Even if aspertame were an issue I truly doubt one a week would be an issue.  Have others heard this craziness.  I actually did ask my neuro about it - he asked me how much I drink, I told him and he said well if it were alot I would tell you to stop since it is not good for you but has nothing to do with your MS!

Again if only it were that easy!

speaking of stevia, you can grown your own, dry the leaves, crush or put them in your coffee grinder and you have Stevia……..plants last 2 years.

I haven't had Asperatame or any other artificial sweetener accept for stevia in YEARS and I still have MS. In retrospect I also had my first symptoms before I ever had any type of artificial sweetener.

I was addicted to Coca-Cola for several years, but I have finally given it up having it only on occasion. I do notice that when I indulge, especially if I drink a large amount of Coke (a large Coke or more than one can) I tend to have more intense nerve pain, so I try to avoid it. I'm thinking it's probably the excess caffeine.

If this were true, and it isn't', there would be so many people with MS, they would put the soda industry out of business.

This has made the rounds so many times………there is no cure yet.
although we all wish there was.

Not sure that would work in the South! Where I was raised it's coke. It's ALL coke. Getting the question 'what kind of coke would you like?' makes perfect sense. And answering it with 'Sprite, please.' is a perfectly acceptable answer. Terms like soda or pop just didn't exist where I was raised!

I am 100% addicted to diet pop... (Pepsi) So of course I get this from people all the time!! It is annoying!!

However I do find that when I do drink a lot of diet pop I do have more muscle pain at night and bladder soreness and frequency. Caffiene does this too so who knows.

I limit my pop (soda) to a minimum these days am try to stick to only Friday for a treat !

Funny side note when I was a kid and ordering at a restaurant they asked me what kind of soda I would like ... I asked for strawberry.
The waitress looked at me funny and said "I never heard of strawberry soda"
So I said " chocolate?" ... Lol
I thought she meant a milkshake calling it soda.... She probably thought I was the funniest Canadian kid ever ... I then ordered an "ORANGE POP"
Hahaha ... Now still to this day when travelling in USA I say soda pop so I don't get it wrong lol

Yes, JJ, the feathers and the comb and wattle, too!  ROFL!!

Honestly, this is such BS.  I think I've consumed three diet sodas in my life, and look what I got!  I just never liked them, and found plain water way more thirst quenching.  Go figure... *sigh*

This is one of those 'it's true' stories that are so wrong, but despite it being fatally  flawed, it won't go away.  It is also supposed to be the cause of heart problems and a number of other diseases.

Oh, that again! When I was first dx, I was told by a few people it must be the diet pop. And more than one person knew someone who was 'misdiagnosed' with MS and when they stopped drinking diet pop, they were ok.

There is so much RUBBISH out there about diet pop causing this and that. These sites quote obscure research, usually out of context, and act like they found the cure for all ills. Idiots.

I've only had 1 diet soda in my life. Could never stand the taste of it.

Does that mean it only takes one diet soda in your life to develop MS? LOL

I reckon if I'd start drinking that nasty stuff, I'd soon have a Dx of one kind or another!
