Slowly Recovering From My Recall

Well, I'm back from my recall ( defective bladder) and repair job. I'm slowly recovering. Things didn't go completely as planned. I did have some complications.

The first problem that my uro-gyn ran into was, that I had a lot of adhesion's (scar tissue) in my abdomen and in other areas that he needed to go. He said if he knew what he was getting into beforehand, he would have opened me up, rather than do it laparoscopically. I'm glad that he was able to do it laparoscopically. He removed as much scar tissue as he could. He also ran across a 7cm ovarian cyst. He removed that as well. He said that it was big and bloody, but to him, he believed it looked benign.

I'm not sure what happened, but I also had some internal bleeding. They gave me vitamin K in the IV to help with that afterwards. My right side of my belly, looks like I was in a car accident. It is black and blue. I'm a little sore, but the pain meds are helping.

The worst issue that I had with the whole procedure was the antibiotics they gave me. They gave me several bags of IV antibiotics and they weren't in mg, but in grams. My stomach did not like this. Even being on a morphine pump for the pain (morphine will give you constipation), I had severe diarrhea. I couldn't control my bowels the whole night. I ended up wearing a diaper and not sleeping the whole night. The good new about it was that my bladder started to work that evening, and I was able to have the catheter removed, which made it easier for me to run to the bathroom (less things to unhook).

When I got home, the stomach issues did not let up. It felt like my stomach was spasming, and then it would go into a constant ache. If I ate or even drank water, I would bloat. I would get this rhythmic spasm, in my stomach, and if I would eat I would bloat, or I would get a ache that would be present constantly. Needless to say, I did loose my cookies once on water when I got home. I blamed it on the combo of the high use of antibiotics and the no use of stomach acid reducers after surgery. They did give me something before surgery (because they know my history) but didn't give me nothing after to prevent a stress ulcer, or stress gastritis. My mother thought I may have stress gastritis from the high use of antibiotics.

I also woke up in the middle of the night my first night home because I urinated on myself. I'm not sure if that was suppose to happen or not or if this is that weird issue that I keep doing

I also developed thrush, in my mouth because of the antibiotics. I called the uro-gyn office this past Monday to tell them of the stomach issues and the thrush. They called me in a RX for the thrush and changed my pain meds from Percocet to Vicodin. I started taking an over the counter anti acid ( Zantac Max Strength), but now I think I'm constipated from the pain meds. I have colace, but it makes my stomach hurt, taking it (I bloat)..Any other ideas of what to take?

I've been trying to eat, but I can't eat that much right now. It's getting a little better (stomach wise). I just hope everything goes back to normal..or somewhat normal. My other issues are acting up as well, and it seems like everything on the left side is aggravated, as far as my spasticity.

I hope everybody else is doing good, and hopefully I will be back 100% soon. On a happy note, I think the surgery did help the stress incontinence issue, because when I was loosing my cookies, I wasn't peeing on myself at the same time..LOL. I know I'm warped.

Wow you are one brave honest woman and what a lot you have been through. Just to send you big hugs and say look after yourself. Arnica will help with the bruising..either cream to rub into the tummy and/or tablets (homeopathic)

ty for the suggestions.

I love to go back to water. It's my favorite drink, but it seems my stomach isn't tolerating it right now. I get nauseated every time I drink it. I've been drinking 7up, slipping in the occasional big glass of water.

I finally finished my antibiotics. I'm so glad for that. My thrush seems to be clearing up slowly as well..Now I know how all those babies feel with it..It's not fun.

It seems the constipation is letting up, but when I got to go now, it's more of a hurting pain in my stomach, that lets me know. I hope this stops soon.

My husband had to help me take a shower yesterday. I had trouble lifting my legs and I was very off balance. He didn't want me to go in there alone. I feel bad because he has to do so much for me right now, and I feel like a invalid, incapable of doing things for myself.

I know he doesn't mind helping, nor do I at the time, because I know I need the help, but I feel guilty, anyways, and I apologies for not being able to do my part right now. He says there is nothing to apologies about, but it still doesn't relieve the guilt.

I was hoping I would bounce back surgery, as I always had, ahead of schedule, and be feeling much better by now, but it seems that I'm at a gradual recovery, rather than my norm. Plus with my other symptoms acting up, I'm not sure if this would be considered a worsening of symptoms or not (it's hard to tell anymore), and I'm in another "episode". I just know that some of my old symptoms that are always present, seem to be a lot worse, and some symptoms that have been gone, are back.

Who can tell between a symptom, or just feeling bad from surgery?
Thanks Anyways

Talk about a good news/bad news scenario!

I'm so glad your surgery is past and that basically you're doing well. It sounds like one of those things that need time for complete recovery. Try something gentle, like Tums, for stomach acid, while eating some fiber and drinking lots of water.

Between the antibiotics and the pain meds, you're in a bind in more ways than one.  :-)  Try to just hang in there till you need neither one. Then I have high hopes you'll feel a lot better. Check in with your surgeon and explain what's happening if this goes on. We do get so many different reactions it's hard to know what's what.

Sending good wishes that the bladder and female stuff are history.

Glad to hear from you and that at least the surgical portion of it is over.
Yes, a lot of people do not realize how antibiotic can be both friend and enemy
knocking out the natural Flora in our body giving access for the "Bad Bacteria"
a place to play.

I am glad that you think that the surgery has helped at least somewhat.
Constipation *****! Almost avoidable when on pain meds. You can of course up your fiber either by supplement / mixes and such, and / or food. aLSO AN ADEQUATE INSREASE IN WATER CONSUMPTION IS WUITE HELPFUL.  (Sorry for the caps)

Please rest, and give yourself time to heal but getting up and down a little bit is always good also...keeps from those goofy clots from forming.
take Care and Be Well,
~Tonya

hope you are back to 100% SOON!
