Social Security

I had to stop working in Feb of 2008. I take morphine daily and was working as a paramedic on an ambulance. I know I cant do any meaningful work anymore. I applied for Social Security and was denied, I am at 6 months on my appeal. My lawyer feels sure I will get it eventually. I expect to be denied again and have to go before the Judge. I am getting pretty frustrated on this appeal taking so long. My late husband got his on his first go around and heard in 3 months. I know my case is different but this is rediclious I was wondering if others were able to get benifits with ms as their dx. I also have fibromyalgia, low b12, neuropathy of hands and feet, artheritis and degenerated discs in my back. I can walk but that is about it.

You make a good point....every single bit of information AND symptoms, no matter what they are caused from, are good to report to SS.  When I applied, I really concentrated on what my life was BEFORE I had MS and what it had become AFTER I was diagnosed with MS.  Since 24 hour a day pain is one of the worst symptoms for me, I concentrated heavily on that in all my reports to SS.

I also was an insulin dependent diabetic when I filed and that may have had something to do with it.  And obese.  (I am no longer insulin dependent)

When my primary care physician wrote his letter to SS, he included every single thing that he had treated me for.  In other words, it looked like I may have won SS on more than one disability.  Maybe that's why I received SS on the first try.  Since I am single, I also received Medicaid.  They even went back 22 months and paid all of my medical bills that were still outstanding and reimbursed me for all my medication expenses for the past 12 months.  I was super surprised that I received that good of treatment from the government.

Yeah Terry, we are blessed with good examiners in the SS office.  Lucky us.  Thank the Lord.

Hugs,
Heather

I have a dx of demylinating disease. I applied for disability last September. I have not had an attorney. I talked to my disability examiner again Thursday.  She says she is ready to wrap this up.  She put me in payment status so I would have insurance even before the final determination.  I have worked closely with her.  I have kept her informed of all testing, etc.  I did not focus my disability on one dx.  I have brought everything to her attention, i. e. cognitive issues, bladder issues, difficulty swallowing, my very cold feet, etc.  When a test has been normal I let her know that also.  I have to say I have been blessed to have had an examiner of her caliber.

I was able to get disability on the first try with a diagnosis of MS.

With your ailments, I don't understand why you are having such difficulty being approved.  Maybe it's time to get a new disability lawyer to fight SS for you.

I hope for the best for you,
Heather
