Spinal. Tap Results for Possible MS

Hello I am a 38 year old female. I just had a spinal tap done and have a few results with questions. My results are.... Glucose CFS ( 67 ), Protein CSF ( 31.0 ) Tube Number CFS( 4 ), Color and Clarity where good, White Blood Cells CSF ( 3 ), Segmented Neutrophils ( 1 ), Lymphocytes CSF ( 85 ) , Monocytes ( 14). Everything else was a 0 so I didn't put it down on on here. My question is what can make my lymphocytes so high? Also does that make my chance of having MS more likely with the lymphocytes being so high? I know they should not be over 40 in the standard range. Hoping someone could help me out.

Hi Christy -

LP results are not a smoking gun for MS. They are used in combination with other results to reach a DX.

As Karry mentioned the first thing they look for in LP results are oligoclonal bands that are in your CSF but not in  the slood sample drawn when the LP is done.Like other LP results this is an indication of some type of inflammation in the central ndervous system. As with lymphcyte levels, unique o-bands are an indication the something is goin on, but they do not indicate what the something is.

Hi there and I'm sorry your post was missed.

I actually don't know much about LP results but I do know that in MS they look for "O bands" in the CSF that is unique to the blood taken at the same time. I think the results can take a couple of weeks at least to come in & hopefully your Neuro will be able to explain more by then.

Take Care,

Karry.
