Strange sensation in head

Has anyone ever experienced anything like this or even remotely like this.

Several times throughout the past few years, and more so recently, I get an unnerving/disturbing sensation in my head.  It typically happens at night when I am in bed. It's both a physical and auditory sensation.  It feels like a taught metal cord has been snapped, like a thick base guitar string but the sound does not linger.  Its a metallic sound and I can almost feel it when it happens. I never suffered any trauma to by head or ears. I have seen my GP, neurosurgeon, ENT and there appears to be no structural damage.   No brain tumor.  Nothing that shows up on imaging.  I always forget to ask the neuro and plan on doing so next wee.  I assume it's related to the MS, but when you have a disease such as this, it's all to easy to attribute an unexplained symptom to it.

I worked for several years with people with severe psychiatric disorders and I know enough about psychotic symptoms to say it is not an hallucination.  I do “suffer” from long-term depression, but I have never experienced psychotic symptoms which can sometimes happen with a major depression.

YES,  I have had this .   I have described it as someone stretching a rubber band between the fingers and strumming it (like your guitar cord)  its freaky and jolts me for a bit.

Thanks.  I plan on asking my neuro about this.  If she can give me an answer, I'll let you know what she says.

Have a nice holiday.

Hello,

Sorry you are having this sensation.

I too have something that happens at the base of my head into my neck, cord-like feeling that "snaps" like a rubber band.  I have been wondering for quite awhile if this is related to Lhermitte's sign.

This usually happens for me when I turn my head to either side, but then it will not happen again in that same day.  It is not painful for me at all though.  I think it is muscle and tendons, related to MS.

I did find the exact "meaning" on the internet before.  I cannot remember it at this second, but if I find it, I will let you know.

Terri
