Survived first Avonex injection, but holy moley

This day feels like it's been 90 hours long. I was busy all morning with various stuff, made all the more complicated because I'm trying to get around on my rollabout, if not the crutches, which are so hard for me. Have been cheating a lot regardless, putting my weight a bit on the heel of my left foot, where its' not s'posed to be. Oh well, the cast keeps things from moving. Tomorrow I see the surgeon, and he's bound to notice that the bottom is not exactly pristine. I have no idea how I'll last out the month supposedly on crutches.

But it's after that that's important. Here's the blow by blow.

1 pm --Avonex nurse arrives to demonstrate injection, etc.
1:30  --Do injection. Not a big deal.
2:30  --Feeling great. After all, nurse said only (ONLY? hah) 49% of people get flu-like reaction.
3:30  --Still feeling groovy.
3:35  --What's this pain in my arms? And why do my legs have that burning feeling? Oh well, think I'll just wait it out.
4:00  --Wait it out? That's nuts. This HURTS. Took one Aleve.
4:30  --Feeling a bit better. Not best, but better.
5:00  --Still improving, but SO tired.

This continues till 6:40, when the AC guy finally arrives to fix things. It was 86 degrees in here. I'd been waiting since noon. AC guy leaves at 7:10. I'm exhausted and sweaty. No good explanation as to what ails the AC, but I'm hoping for the best.

My arm pain is much better, so thanks, Aleve. The odd thing is that it got very severe all along the inside bone (radius?). I had been getting a considerbly milder version of this for a few weeks. Worrisome, but then I started Lyrica. So I figured it was just neuropathic. So why then did Aleve help?

The leg part, along the shin bone but worse on the right, is just like my neuropathic pain that has been better now that I have Lyrica and amiltrityline. Nothing's helping this now. Pain.

So I'd take a shower but am afraid of getting my cast wet so will have to make do at the sink. Should have read my horror-scope. But at this point the Avonex thing is quite manageable, so I'm hoping. Here's to tomorrow!

OK, so my joke bombed.  It's no reason for you not to check in.

You OK?

Here's a cute one from one blonde to another~

A blonde was swerving all over the road and driving very badly, so she got pulled over by a cop.
The cop walked up to her window and asked, "Miss, why are you driving so recklessly?"

The blonde said, "I'm sorry sir, but wherever I go, there's always a tree in front of me and I can't seem to get away from it!"

The cop looked at her and said, "Lady, that's your air freshener!"

Thanks for the good cheer. I really needed it. A few other disgruntling things also happened yesterday, and I much prefer to be gruntled.

Just to explain a bit---I had some kind of osteotomy done on my foot. This was to correct the mess that a podiatrist had made in solving a bone problem. He did correct it, but overdid things quite a lot, so caused another and even worse problem. Then I called in the big guns, an orthapedic surgeon, who said I had 2 choices, live with it or more surgery. I lived with it for over a year, and now here I am.

Today the stitches were taken out and yet another and bigger cast was put on. I had a huge chocie of colors, but settled for basic blue. Don't think I could live with hot pink for another 2 1/2 weeks. Fortunately the heel part was built up so I can put weight on that (which I've been doing anyway). I'll have to see what the next step is, but it's likely to be some kind of boot thingy.

As to Avonex, I'm doing fine today. I'm so relieved. I'll definitely do subsequent shots before bed, fortifying myself with more Aleve and whatever else. It's so strange that the shot's effects were exactly like a mega-episode of my more recent and on-going MS symptoms that Lyrica and amitriptyline have been helping. If anyone else has experienced this, please let me know.

Meanwhile life is dull here in this cast. Can't go or do much. So has anyone heard any good jokes?

What happened to your foot?  I guess I missed alot of info on you somewhere!  Can't be of much help on the DMD's as I have never been on them and am still in limbo, but wishing you a good experience with the meds!

OMGoodness!  Quite manageable!!  You must be female!  (Sorry, men, but you know it's true...at least in my house!)

What a day you had yesterday!  All that and post-surgery, too.

I'm at work, so I have to be brief.  Take care of yourself, ess.  I think Quix has said that she has a reaction to Avonex, too, but she injects at night so she can sleep through most of the icky-sicky part. It sounds lousy, though.  Did the nurse recommend that you inject at night?  It probably didn't occur to her, since only half of paitents have bad reactions....

Feel well, my friend, until I can catch up with ye!

Love,

Hey Gal!

I'm so behind on what's going on these days.  Didn't realize you were starting the Avonex even, let alone casts and such!

Point me into the right direction to read the latest on you ma'am - please, or give me a recap.

I hope the aches subside for you.  I know with Rebif, it did.  Just pre-medicate until you don't have to anymore.  My med side affects balanced out after a few months.  I didn't have the benefit of knowing what was MS and what was meds since I starting them not long after diagnosis.  I'll know more when I start up again (off of them due to a drug reaction).

Miss ya!
((hugs))
