Patting myself on the back for a baby step

Hi everyone,

I've felt downright lousy the past few days.  I had to leave work early yesterday because I couldn't keep my chin up, literally!  (Could this be that f-word, fatigue?  Hope not!!!)  Couldn't sleep well though I wanted to, I had too many symtoms and thoughts knocking around.  This morning I go up and was like, nuh-uh, I'm not going to make it into work.  But, I dragged myself onto my elliptical to try and shake off the feelings, showered, had breakfast, and behold!  I made it!  (Haha, not that I've exactly dived into work just yet....)

I don't mean to trivialize the much greater challenges I'm sure most out there face.  I was looking at the calender the other day and I am at 11+ weeks of this "episode" of symptoms (no diagnosis).  The 1st one was only a month, so it kind of startled me to measure the current nonsense...

I have a meetin' later today that I am not looking forward to, since all of this junk has led to me getting very behind on my project, so I don't feel home free for the day just yet, but I know I'd feel worse if I was at home.

No question asked, no response needed, no point to make.  Just a pat on my own back and a gripe about discomfort.

Hope everyone else can take a second to appreciate how well they are handling their own challenges!

Good for you.  I can relate to the need to really push yourself physically when you just don't feel up to doing it.

Today I was walking home from having my blood drawn, and noticed how good the air smelled with the fresh cut grass and flowers blooming.  There was a lovely strong breeze, and the sky was sunny with a few shady clouds.  I got home, leashed up one of my standard poodles (can't handle both of them at once!) and walked her a few miles.

By the time I got home, my head felt clear and I just felt great mentally, despite being fatigued again today, and my whole lower body buzzing from the walk.

I have a little work to do myself today; I'm just in the process of testing the waters with returning to work after a 9 month absence.  Going to try to do about 15 hrs/week from home, to start.  I must say that going for that walk this morning has me in a better frame of mind to tackle what I need to do.  I really want to do a good job, and prove (to myself, more than anyone else) that I can still work at the same standard as before I went off ill.

Like you, I had to push myself to get moving, but feel great now that I did.  Let's try to hang on to that motivation, tomorrow and the next day and the day after that..........  I'm going to try to make a morning walk part of my regular routine, at least for now while I'm trying to work part-time from home.

Good luck with your meeting today.  Hopefully throughout the day you'll reap some of the cognitive benefits from your exercise!

Just another pat on the back!

This is definitely a place for the Serenity Prayer!

If you find the manual for your brain, look around and see if mine is there, too, please, lol!

How true that sometimes the hardest thing to do is to allow ourselves to get that elusive guiltless and restoring rest!  It certainly is daunting!

This place is great and I do rely on it when those moments of "what's happening to me? what am I going to do, and how am I going to do it???" hit.  I think I'm in a "how" place right now, lol, as I seem to have lost my brain's manual and am stuck in idle!

Go wonko!!  It can be really hard to make ourselves do things but we do have to try. Sometimes we find we just can't, and that's okay too. Figuring out which is which can be daunting.

Nevertheless, let's put lots of effort into doing what we can do, and when we have to fold, let's really fold and rest up, no guilt.

We sure didn't ask for this life, but we have to make the best of it. Our forum is such a great place to roost as we deal with it.
