Evoked Potentials

ELT
Well, I just got a call from my neuro's secretary.  They have an appointment for me to have an evoked potentials test sequence on April 14.  Somatosensory, brain stem auditory and visual.

When I looked up this stuff just now, on line, I read that they also do a brainstem trigeminal, but, as they didn't mention this when they gave me the appointment, does that mean they don't plan on doing it?  They must be, right?  Specially since my neuro knows my whole face is now in constant....'something', for want of a better word.

My teeth feel like they all think they need a root canal, my gums feel infected, my lips and tongue feel like they have shingles, my face, around my my mouth worst, lesser around the perimeter, constantly itchy/numb/burning/tingling, jaw feeling like its got something drilling into the hinge, pushing it in, like my jaw is broken, both sides.  My left eyelid has been twitching for months now, the right, only occasionally, my left eye did the, 'I'm looking through vaseline', thing, for two weeks just recently.

And, ooohhhhhhhhhhhhh you have no idea of the relief of a cold bottle rubbed onto my jaw.  Even my ears are uncomfortable.  And the tinnitus.

They HAVE to see something.

When I mentionned that I'd had an mri last saturday and wasn't allowed to have a disk copy 'til the requesting doctor had his report, she said she was sure they would receive it soon.  And in the meantime, this is your app't time for your ep, and that my doc would be seeing me after that.

Hmmm

I gather that the somatosensory / visual / brainstem auditory also means brain stem trigeminal?  What would be the point otherwise, right?  Did I just answer my own question?  LOL

My neuro's secretary told me that the testing would take five hours.  That works out for the best, anyways, as my 82 year old mum is my chauffeur.  LOL  She lives an hour west of me, almost, and my appointments are mostly in Ottawa, an hour, at least, east of me.  So, the poor senior citizen has to do a four hour road trip, wait around for me, AND buy me lunch with a beer.  LOL

I'm looking forward to some answers, I think.

Thanks, again, the two of you.  It's nice to finally have a computer, and have answers to questions so close at hand.  :)  I don't know how the heck I managed before May of '06, when we finally broke down and purchased one and got the internet.  I almost feel like an old google pro, now.  LOL  I have learned SOOOOO much.  All over the internet.  And the info I get in here?  Amazing,  thnx.

Thanks so much.  I WILL call the doctor this morning.  It would seem to me that THAT would be the thing to show up, since it's having so much fun with me at present.  LOL

I think the TN EP may be new and may or may not be included in the BAER.  In my reading I have never read anything about it.  They are coming up all the time with new EP tests, but that doesn't mean your local hospital is going to be able to do it.  Big centers will have these tests first.

Don't "assume" it will be included.  Call and ask.

Good luck.

I'VE HAD ALL THE EVOKED POTENTIALS AND I DO BELEIVE THE TN IS IN WITH THE BAER.

I CAN'T BELEIVE THEY ARE DOING ALL 3 IN ONE DAY,I KNOW WHEN I HAD THE VEP AND BAER IT TOOK 2 AND 1/2 HOURS BETWEEN THE TWO.

ITS BEST TO GET THEM OUT OF THE WAY AND GET ANSWERS.

YOUR NEURO IS COVERING ALL THE BASES AND THATS WONDERFUL.
