The Kindness of Strangers, revisited

I had a good swim at the recplex after work tonight- almost an hour in the pool. I then showered, dressed and headed out to my car. When I sat down and put my hands on the steering wheel, I immediately realized that my wedding rings were gone.

After muttering a few words that I can't repeat here, I immediately went back to the building, thinking 1) how would I tell DH I lost my rings 2) I am glad I have them insured and 3) why hadn't I taken pictures of what they look like for my insurance?

There was a lengthy line at the entrance counter, which I immediately went around. I was thinking about having to put on my wet swimsuit, grab my goggles and start searching for my rings. Some voice made me stop at the front counter to tell the students I had lost my wedding rings.

You can only imagine my surprise and relief when the student reached in their drawer, pulled out an envelope and gave me my rings. My rings were found IN THE POOL by a swimmer and turned in to one of the life guards who had just brought them to the front counter a few minutes earlier. Once again, I have to say I do believe in the kindness of strangers. Thank you, whoever you are, who found my rings.

Mary - finding a loose diamond would be absolutely odds defying.

My wedding/engagement ring is fairly sizeable and perhaps the sunlight was shining off the diamond.

I did share this with the aquatics director and how proud I am of these young adults. I just hope my words of thanks filter back to the person who found my rings.

Actually Lulu the kids turn in policy make sense to me and this hardly ever happens with me anymore!!  Really, how many people go around to the lost and found looking for an article of clothing (or a book they probably forgot to open before it was lost).  Most students struggle with finances and know all too well how hard the hit is when it is cash or keys or ID that is lost.  Horray, maybe they ARE learning?

I was at the YMCA pool once when an instructor was beside herself with worry and grief.  She told us the diamond from her wedding set was gone.  It was there when she got in the water.  She only had the band and empty setting when she got out.  SOMEONE FOUND -AND RETURNED- HER SINGLE DIAMOND FROM THE BOTTOM OF THAT POOL!  I think there could be some luck left out there for you :-)

Sarah, you are overdue for make-up fortune.

May we all pay it forward in some little way today.

I was the unlucky one and I hope the person who took my purse REALLY needed it.
We had just cashed our Christmas Club check and payroll one year and were going to see the children, no bills had been paid, nothing had been bought, stopped at a restaurant for breakfast, left purse in booth seat, realized it when got to car, someone vanished with it before we could get back in....$2,700 gone forever...................we survived somehow but truly hope the person needed it.

It's funny because on campus if you leave a textbook or sweatshirt or other clothes behind in a classroom, they disappear, never to be seen again.  But if you lose a wallet, cell phone, or other things of irreplaceable/difficult to replace value, they almost always show up and get turned in. I handle the lost & found for our building so I see it regularly.  It is a strange moral code that I still don't understand.

I can't believe my good fortune that someone not only found it, but also that is wasn't sucked into the pool filter.  I may have exhausted my good luck for the week or the month or the year!

Nice story but seriously girl friend, you should be counting your self lucky and not be testing fate again so get that blasted picture taken!

My daughter left her wallet/purse on the train, the nice old man who found it called us and we arranged to pick it up. The next day she left her wallet/purse in a taxi and the driver noticed and came back to give it to her. Now there are a few ways to look at this but she chose to buy a new wallet/purse because she'd obviously run out of luck with that one! lol

I like happy endings :-)

Cheers...........JJ

I would have been a mess. I had my 10 year anniversary band (widowed) stolen from my home. I have some emotional baggage with regard to that. I found that out when I placed my new wedding set to sit in the cleaner overnight and forgot I did that... all hell broke loose.

I am SOO glad that someone found them and there are such wonderful people still in the world.  Warm fuzzies!

I am glad that there are still honest and conscientious people left in this world!  I recently left my purse in a movie theater and was totally panicked. I can't imagine losing my wedding rings!

So glad this had a happy ending!
