GOOD SIGN OR BAD???

Hi fellow ms's----Yesterday I had my LP, and thankfully it went well.----So, far as of now( no headache)---but my question is---after they got the tubes needed, I asked the "tech" if the "stuff" looked OK, and they said it looked clear.---So, is that a good sign or not? And even though it appeared clear can they still show signs of MS/o-bands or whatver it is there looking for?-----Hopefully one of you guys can give me an insight.----Thanks guys

Thanks guys for the encouragement and advise.----Yeah, I felt "groggy" after the LP, but came home and my BF took care of dinner, dishes, laundry, whatever. He's so good to me, with all of this.---As for the next day, I wanted in the worse way to go to work, cuz of good ol' finances, but opted not to.---The lab that did the Lp called the next day to see how I was feeling, and if I had any problems or questions.--Which I thought was very nice of them!!!---And she/they told me, they understood I wanted to go to work, but siad it was NOT a good idea, cuz that "dreaded" headache can come at any time. ANd if I "push" it, I'll regret it.-----So, yeah, the results will take 7-10 days according to them.  So, that's Ok. Let's just hope all is well.----Again--THANKS FOR THE ADVICE AND SUPPORT!!!!

Hi Spitfire,
Its good to hear from someone else who had an ok experience with this procedure.  Just take it easy the next few days and you should be fine.  Be patient waiting for the results - it takes a while for this lab work to be finished.

Be well,
Lulu

Hi,

Please do take it easy today.  I had an awful spinal headache after my LP, and had to have a blood patch.  Of course, the interventional radiologist that did it was not good at all; my fluid came out pink and slightly hazy.  He had to try three times before he could get any fluid, and hit a few nerves in the process.

I'm glad you're doing well, and hope you avoid a headache altogether.  A lot of people make it without one, others it hits after 24 hours, so do take it fairly easy.

Julie was right on about the clear fluid and testing for O bands and other stuff.  It takes a few days to process the results, and then a while for your doctor to get back to you with them.  Mine showed no O bands; was clear in a different way.  I got the results from the lab and figured out that it was clear with the help googling and our wise forum people.

Take care,

Kathy

Hi Spitfire!!

I'm glad the LP went good.  I posted for you yesterday, asking about your neuro visit on Monday, how'd it go?

You do need to take it easy, even though you feel okay right now.  You don't want that headache!!  Sunny had a really bad time after her LP, so take it easy today!!

Clear fluid is a good thing.  Alisa is correct that if your fluid is healthy, then it should be clear.  However, If there's something wrong, then you would see cloudy or discolored fluid.

In your case, having clear fluid has no bearing on the oligoclonal band test as that is a separate test altogether.  They do several tests on the fluid, that is why they needed to extract so much.  You will probably hear from your doctor about the results in the next couple of weeks.

That was my understanding with the fluid as well - that it is clear when it comes out.  They decide the rest in a lab.  Please be careful yet today!  I felt fine for the first 24 hours after my LP so I got up & started to do stuff & then I got the LP headache!  OUCH!    Glad you are doing well.  Take care of you & keep us posted.
