Update about telling my family about my DX

WHEW  glad that's over   :-D

I would like to report very positive reaction from my oldest son & his wife  last week, about   me telling them about my DX.

However when I began telling my story & why we with held the DX from  my son &  daughter in-law  she began to cry, because she thought the worse & is expecting their first child this fall.  She really had thought it was a death sentence .
I had printed out some info for them, they read though it all  and  had more questions for me the next day.

This was very emotional for me,  I kept it together  and  they exceeded my expectations with their love and support & he made me promise him when he deploys later this year that I won't hold back any information about my health.

My youngest son will be here at the end of July ,  he is also serving our nation. After I let him know,  then other family members will be told.
I just don't want my DX on any social website before I tell family & friends.

I have posted pic's of my boys (MEN) .

Thank you to everyone that offered support & advise about telling family members

John     (  we need cooler weather in the Midwest )

Johnniebear,
The fear of the unknown is always so much worse, isn't it?  Your men will be there for you no matter what.  I'm so glad you have this one down and you can stop worrying. Your other son will be equally fine in handling this news.

Now for the next worry that you can't control- what are your Bears going to do this year?

be well,
Lulu

Fine looking family you have there, John.  Happy to hear they're so supportive, but I'm not surprised, really, based on the admittedly limited perspective on character I've seen of their dad.  God bless.

(Oh, yeah, cooler weather!  Our weather gurus are saying a bit for the weekend.)

I am so pleased to hear that it went well and that your family can now be there for you and understand what is going on. Well done for finding your courage and trusting your kids. Will have a look at your piccies (my husband is serving in Afghanistan and we are from UK).

Cheers for now

I too am glad that you told them and all went well.
Our children do NOT look at us as "Sick" but rather we are the ones who can do anything for them and for ourselves and will always be strong. Never to be a frail person perhaps to wind up in a wheelchair. That is just NOT a reality for them..our children!

We love them so much and want to shield them from any kind of hurt and/or pain. After all, we are their parents....."Their Protectors"
Provinding them w/ enough info and facts about MS and not letting them believe the horror stories will be of great value.

I also always let my children (well young adults..lol) know that they can still come to me with anything, any problems, questions, and concerns. However, they have stated in private to hubby (their dad) that they do not want to stress me or worry me w/ anything because they think it will make me ill from the stress. God Bless each one of our children!

Take Care,
~Tonya

My kids also thought this was a death sentence. It was not until I referred them to this forum and other informational websites that they found out it is an obstacle and not one to take laying down. I am glad you have a supportive family.
