Undiagnosed MS Treated w/IV Steroids

Hi Newby here, I've been expirencing MSy Symptoms since 2006. Numbness, tingling, blurred vision, esculating to leg spasticity and mild footdrop. In 2007 I went to neuro #1 who said "no big deal, probably viral" A few months later went to my now current neuro doc who is wonderful and attentive. My exams have been getting worse over the years.....sx aysmmetrical brisk to hyper reflexs, postive hoffman's and babinskis. ocular dysmetria, enlarged optic nerves. Phew! Sounds like a slamdunk except 4 MRI's came back normal, LP a few white cells...Have had COMPLETE work-up for ALL infectious dieases, metals @ Mass General ...I'm having second major flare in 8 months being treated w/IV solu-medrol. So, what's next? How could my exams scream MS and test come back neg? Do I need a stronger MRI machine? What would cause myelopathy like this and not show up? Thank you for any answers or comments.....sea

Actually, being imaged on a 3.0 Tesla machine may not be a bad idea.  I'm not sure a 1.5 Tesla machine has the resolution to see anything smaller than 1mm x 1mm.  If they think you had Optic Neuritis, that may be visible on MRI to a Neuroradiologist.  Have they done a an MRI of your C-spine? Have hey checked you brain volume and for T1 changes (like "black holes" or gliosis) that would indicate scarring?

Statistically, a 3.0T machine picks up about 20% more lesions that are not demonstrated by a 1.5 T machine.

B&W or Mass Gen will have a 3 T.  They also have some very good Neuroradiologists and Neurologists on staff that instruct at Tuft's.  You may have to travel that far to get to a good MS Specialist.

Thanks for responding. Yes they did c-spine, t-spine and brain. W/gad and w/o. I don't know about T1 changes.....They never said anything about that. I'll have to look into that. Unfortunately I live in Maine where there are no 3.0T machines. My neuro intends to send my case to the MS clinic affiliated w/ Brigham and Women's in Boston. So maybe I'll get an opportunity to get an MRI down there.
