According to my research daily vitamins assist with the relief of MS Symptoms. Based on the wisdom and experience of the members of the board, what are you opinions and suggestions about supplements.

Thanks.

I take pre-natal vitamins.  They seemto work the best, even when not expecting.  I also take Sam's club calcium with a high load of D.  For years I have been taking E, and just recently started Fish Oil.

Sllowe hit that major worry on the head! I have been told by 3 neuro's that any vitamin or herbal supplement that boosts my imune system is a very bad thing unless blood work has confirmed that I am lacking in certain things.

I am on vitamin D (most always low with my MS)
Ferritan (iron) blood work shows it's low again
Calcium beacuse I have Osteopenia (early Osteoporosis)
Some fancy supplement for bowel problems ( currently an issue)

Thats it unless the doctor says to add something or stop something

I take 200mg vit D, all purpose, 2000mg fish oil, 2000mg flax oil, 1200 calcium & magnesium and vit. C occasionally.  I did some research on what vitamins and minerals were good for inflammation and started this in 2005.  Recently I've had so many inflammatory conditions show up and MS..that I can't say what is working or what is not.  My doctors think that what I am taking is just fine.  Personally I think that my recent conditions are a result from the stress during the winter trying to take care of a very difficult mother.  That is not happening now, but the post traumatic stress from it continues.  My doctors all think that this is what caused this flare up.
So, I'm wondering what vitamins do you all take for stress?  Charley

Bumping this up.
I would like to know which vitamins are best. I am not dx yet, but doc told me I need to start taking a multivitamin.
I used to take them regularly. I was taking the Nature's Way Alive vits for a few years, but have trouble swallowing the pills now (3 horse pills a day, but they were great, it was worth it).
Now I am looking for a good adult chewable vitamin/mineral supplement and possibly a chewable calcium supplement. I don't tolerate calcium carbonate too well, trying to find Citrate in a chewable form.
Anyone have any suggestions?

Hi Patc,

I agree with sllowe on this. Ask your neurologist what to take or not take.

Since I am not on any of the standard DMDs, I take a potent B formula, lots of Vitamin C, D3, Magnesium and a good probiotic. My goal is to optimize my immune system and keep my digestion in good order.

Hi Patc,

I was advised by way of dx'd seminars to run all vitamin supplements by your treating neuro.  They warned of some of the literature out because it can be misleading. For example it would not be good to take something that stimulates your immune system (our immune systems are overactive in the 1st place).

I take a multi vitamin - the Freddy Flinstone type. I don't get any symptom relief, but figure it balances out my diet.

Who else takes what? And, are you getting any relief?  Good topic.
