WELL, AFTER 10 YEARS I HAVE A DX

Like the header says, after 10 years, I have a dx. Today my neuro said, "you have MS". I wanted to say, NO $%#@! I knew it was coming and still, it hit me in the gut........
Some of the test results from the LP were not in last time I went in. Today I ask the receptionist to make copies of all my tests and lab reports. While waiting to do another EMG, I was reading over the labs from the LP. There it was........
When I got to the back and my dr had to do his part of the EMG, I said, by the way did you see the lab reports we were waiting for from the LP. No, I didnt he said. Well, here ya go. I handed it to him. He read through it and said, yep, you have MS.
He is going to start me on Copaxone. The nurse faxed the paperwork to the drug company and I am waiting to hear from them.
So, how long does it take to get diagnoised? For me 10 years!!! I think it is ridiculious what MS patients have to go through and have to be put through. That will be for another post.

Thank you all for being here for me on and off over the years. I have learned that I (we all do) have to stay proactive in our own healthcare! I am sure as I learn more and let this settle in my heart, I will have more questions and rants.
For now, I am going to remain calm and remind myself to breathe............

Hugs,
Beth

Wow, Beth,  you sure had a long climb up that mountain.  Now you get to join the rest of us in this forever after club on the other side.  Funny how even though you knew it was MS, it still takes the wind out of you to hear it confirmed by the doctor.  I think we all know that feeling.

Now on to being proactive with the therapy - I hope you will do well with the copaxone.  The injection  training should be of help to you and there are lots of people here on copaxone will to share aditional tips (including me).

For now, just take some time to absorb this confirmation of what you've known for a long time.
hugs, Lulu

Sorry about the diagnosis. But glad you will get on a DMD and hopefully stop the progression.

And glad that the neuro started the process for Copaxone right away!

Very sorry to hear you're the newest member of the club.  It stinks.  I will not offer congrats...nobody can be happy to have MS, despite a lengthy time in limbo.  Having said that, of course this dx is an important step towards managing this disease.  I wish you the best as you embark on a treatment plan, and hope that the Copaxone makes a difference for you as it has for so many of us.

Yes Tammy,
Espeially because I'm in a major relaspe. How long did it take for the drug company to get back to you? What time of day is better for the injection......
I am anxious to get back to work. Probaly wont happen till the beginning of the month. Just hoping the Copaxone and I get along with one another.

It's strange isn't it?  Going to the doctor's office.  Bracing yourself for yet another dismissal.  Finally getting the diagnosis.  But you can't really be happy about it- because it means that this really isn't going to go away.  I'm sorry it took so long.  At least now, you can try to fight back against it.

I've taking copaxone for the last few days now too.  I'd advise you to wait for the Shared Solutions nurse to come train you.  It does sting for a bit, but at least there are no flu-like side effects.
