Way off topic

Well, here it is the middle of winter, and I'm missing the fact I didn't have a garden this summer. For some odd reason (which I had no idea way back in the spring) I was so tired and not the least bit interested in putting one together or tending it. Now I know there was a physical cause for this lack of interest, but I still missed having rows of fresh green beans to pick and preserve and fresh tomatoes and all the rest.

So, seeing as how my future gardening plans and abilities (having a hard time keeping commitments that require physical exertion and stamina) are in question, I've decided to get more involved in hydroponics. Earlier this year I tried one of those countertop gardens to grow herbs and loved how easy and clean it was. It was pretty fool proof, but not extremely prolific. After a bit of research I've found better nutrients supposedly make this more successful.

Santa treated me this year to a couple more of these table top hydroponic gardens, and now I've already got some romaine lettuce and cherry tomatoes sprouting under lights in their little pods.

If this is lupus, I may have to give up the outdoors in summer, but I won't have to give up my gardens and fresh produce. Those little winter tomatoes from the store just don't cut it for me.

Adjust and adapt. It's what we do, right?

Thanks, Lulu. My husband doesn't eat fresh tomatoes either. They don't like him, not the other way around.

My DH would love to garden with you - he hates the winter tomatoes we get after being spoiled with the fresh garden ones.  He says they are worlds apart in taste, but I wouldn't know because I can't stand fresh tomatoes.

Have fun with the hydroponics..... this could be a new leisure time activity for you.

best, L
