We miss you, Yorkieville!

Hi, Sheila~

I know you've been having a rough time, and I've just been giving you space.  But I can't take it anymore!  Where ARE you?

Is Dr. K. helping at all?  Are you in that much pain?  I'm worried about you.  You're not seeing other forums behind our backs, are you?  I know you got your diagnosis, and you really should be with the CIPDs, but we need you here, to know you're OK.

Come back!

Love and hugs,

Zilla*

Hi, Shelly.

I have the chest heaviness and shortness of breath, at times, too. The burning...werll, I've lived with it for 3 & 1/2 years...only just now getting down to a dx.

Yes, it was a real treat to have my sister host Thanksgiving this year. It did feel a bit strange not to do it. I've always hosted the family gatherings. I think she was a bit nervous doing ti for the 1st time, but I'll tell you, she did awesome! I kiddingly told her that maybe I'd let her take over. LOL

Shelly, I don't mean to nag, but if it encourages you to quit smoking, I'll do it. LOL Seriously, I hope you'll quit. My Mom died of late stage emphysema in '98, she was only 67. The last 4 years of her life, she was in a nursing home, and only had 10% of her own oxygen. I had to read her lips to converse with her. I'm sure you've heard all the horror stories, but I'll tell you, to witness her slow death.....tore me apart.
Glad you posted.

Hi, Zilla.

Girl, you just amaze me, cleaning & cooking! I haven't pushed the vacuum or cleaned a bathroom in two years! Just standing on my feet for a half hour starts my legs and thighs burning, and my back, throbbing with pain.

It takes very little for me to breathe hard, but I've been attributing it to mild emphysema, but now i am not so sure. (Non-smoker.)

Your family gathering sounds like it was sheer heaven!

Rich & I bought a fresh-cut Frasier Fir last week, and have it standing in a bucket of preservative in the garage. What kind of tree did you choose?

Hey Ladies,

Thanks for the info.  Just what I need, neurological issues.  Scary for sure.  I'm going to give it a go, but will stop if it causes more probs.  My swallowing is strange.  It's as if something is swelled up in there.  Feels like I want to put an ice pack on it - as if it would go down.  I do take naproxen from time to time, for my arms, and sometimes it subsides the throat too.  Leaving me think it is a swelled gland or something.  I'm going to tell my MD, since I already called the Neuro on it.

I hate going to Drs and appts.  I usually wait until I'm completely fed up w/dealing.  I'm sure you can relate.

I'm glad you posted this stuff too, as I have no clue what goes on w/some of these things, and it's tough knowing what can, or is, related to MS.  What I do know that it was coincidental w/the meds, but I can't remember if it started w/the 1/2 dose, or the full.  If it is thyroid, I'd consider taking 1/2 dose of Rebif before going on meds, for issues caused by other meds.

My brother put it best to me, and I hope its not inappropriate to post here, but what they heck.  Reference side affects and taking meds for side affects for meds. . ..Here goes. . . We've all seen those ED commercials, how they say for men to go to the Dr. immediately if you experience an ere. .tion for more thank 4 hours. .. ha/ha. . .I can hardly type it, but what he said was, what do they give you a shot of something to shrink your w...  ner.  He said it much funnier, but I don't want to offend anyone. . .

That said, I hope it's not the Rebif. . .wouldn't want to get into a vicious cycle of meds.  We'll have to have it all checked out, and compare notes.  I never thought it could be spasicity, but it makes sense to me.

Talk to you soon,
SL

Hmmmm. I'm so glad I posted about this weird stuff.

Were you on the Chantix when you couldn't walk at all?  When you had to go head to head with the out of control receptionist and PA?  Grrrrrrr!  Good information, something Shelly should definitely know.

Yes, you do inspire me, T.  I'm sure you inspire lots of us out here.  And SL brightens everyone's days with her nice messages for everyone.

I'm sure your workouts MUST keep your muscles strong even when your disease robs you of so much more, don't you think?  And the peace of mind it gives is worth so much, like you say.  That it's something positive you can do.  What if you did nothing?  I'm sure you're building some mass, don't you?  Or stalling the progreesion of wasting, somehow.  You must be.  Those handsome ones lack a little in the brain department.  Although, like I told ya, mine is as cute as they come, too, and he's the best I've had so far as far as figuring out what I have.  So, who knows!  Just keep looking into his pretty eyes.....

Feel well!  And get your profile up there, T!

I hope my sisters are feeling the smacks you are giving them.

I get out of breath, yes I am a smoker, but I get the burning muscle pain more so when I over do.

SL chantix worked well for me but I stopped taking it,read the right front corner on the bottom, its in very little print,it states it can cause neurological disorders, multiple sclerosis and or frequent attacks. My GP took me off of it.I had two nasty attacks while on it.I'm not trying to discourage you from trying it.Just giving you the heads up.

Zilla,I'm glad I inspire you, that makes my day,now if I could inspire some around here.I like going to the gym it gives me a peice of mind and I get to do something for me,even though my egotistic but handsome neuro says it ain't doing any good.

No, I don't smoke.  Good luck with quitting.  I know SO many who've had great success with Chantix.

I do have swallowing problems from time to time, but mine are, and I think this sounds weird, spasticity issues.  I am having a lot of trouble with spasms in my legs, arm and neck, but I wonder if that might be the problem with my throat, too.  Sometimes food just hangs there, as when I was really ill last spring.  But that just seemed like me throat muscles wouldn't work, maybe the heaviness, like what you're talking about.  Like my swallowing mechanism was confused.

I also have trouble swallowing at night when lying on my left side (also the side I have double vision on).  I don't know.  I try to fall asleep lying on my right.  I'm sorry your swallowing is scary for you.  Is it because you worry about choking or breathing?  I've had that sensation before.  Make sure your doctor knows, if he doesn't already.

The interleukin is something no one has ever tested me for before, and I don't think most docs draw it.  I am eager to hear what all my results are, finally.  As long as no one sends me back to a psychiatrist, I'll be fine!

Feel well!
