What can it be?

I've been one of those lurkers for a year or so. Below is my latest MRI, can anyone give me some direction? My symptoms come and go but when I have them it feels like I've been trampled by elephants and that a thousand ants are crawling under my skin. I've been ok for about a month, but I know it's a matter of time until it comes back. My GP referred me to a neuroligist who has the let's wait and see attitude. Should I seek out someone new?

Examination again shows tiny foci of increased signal involving
the subcortical white matter of both frontal lobes with some
asymmetric signal in the subependymal periventricular white
matter adjacent to the frontal horn of the right lateral
ventricle all of which are essentially stable. There is a 2.5 mm
focus of signal in the upper anterior centrum semiovale on the
left which is slightly more prominent than previous exam but this
is of questionable clinical significance at this time. None of
these show mass-effect or enhancement and are nonspecific. The
differential diagnosis again includes a demyelinating process,
but also includes a vasculitis, the sequela of old vascular
insults (no positivity on diffusion weighted imaging to suggest a
recent vascular insult), some other inflammatory process or even
the sequela of an infective process (e.g.: Lyme disease vs.
encephalitis.) The lack of enhancement or mass-effect would
suggest against a neoplastic process at this time, though
follow-up is recommended.

Hi there.. well your MRI sounds like there are some things there, but not enough for a DXs.. and alot of time it take time and more tests to get to a Dxs..

it also matters what your Neuro Exams shows the neurologist...have you requested copies of their reports?  Too see what he/she might be thinking it is??

have you had blood tests for other mimics that might be happening... it could be another autoimmune thing going on...have you seen a Rheumatologist?

keep us informed on how your feeling and other tests... ask what is the next step to take and call the Neuro back if your symptoms return ..
take care

Hi and welcome to the forum!

I think that the MRI has a lot to say.  Not being a dr. I can't tell you what it is, but if the MRI prior to this one was seen by the current neurologist, I would not be comfortable staying with the neurologist.

You need a second or third opinnion.

Hope it helps,
Karen
