Copy of Dr. M's report to my PCP. States, among other things, "moderate to severe diffuse posterior neck muscle tenderness. Motor: Muscle tone and bulk normal. Strength is intact except 4+/5 bilateral iliopsoas and hamstrings and 5-/5 deltoids, with a give away component. Sensory: Vibration is borderline in the uppers and mildly to moderetly decreased in the lowers. Reflexs: Deep tendon reflexes ae symmetrical and somewhat brisk," Impressions diabetic neuropathy......myelopathy.decreased vibratin senses in lower extremeties.."

Recommendations: repeat cerv ical and thoracic spine MRI, consider arterial Dopplers, consider neuropshchological testing. Not gonna happen. Check B12, TSH, and CK.

It seems that Dr. M is attributing my sx to spinal cord compressins or lesions somewhere, or that my fusion and discectomy did not relieve the cord compression in my neck.

Just wondered if you had any thoughts on this. Any thoughts on the weakness exhibited in the hips and thight area? At least it showed physical findings..I know it's "Not all in my head!"

Have a good day, Maggie

Looking over  Dr. M's report it looks like you understand it correctly.  You have a tiny bit of weakness at the hips and the shoulders.  The loss of vibrational sense appears to indicate some myelopathy (disease of the spinal cord).

He wants to re-image the spine, check out your carotid arteries for any decreased flow.  He also rec's neuropsych testing.  Did you complain of any cognitive stuff to him?  NP testing can often tease out which functions of the cognitive and executive parts of the brain are affected.  This recommendation is not usually to check for somatization or ?stress? stuff.  When they think the person is a flake they usually just recomend counseling or a psychiatrist - very differnent things.

He wants to check a couyple things, B12 andTSH which can cause peripheral neuropathy.  I'm not sure why he want the CK.

The weakness in the hips can come from the cervical area or the thoracic area, either.  So he's looking at both.

Does this help?
