What does 'organic' really mean..?

Hi Everyone, Can anyone please tell me what the neuro and ms dr ment when they said I have an organic neurological disease?  This was in a previous post I wrote following my last appointment and I thought I knew what they ment from some of the replies and I was very happy with that but now a number of people including my own gp have said different things?

Can anyone shed some light on it?  I know what organic veg is but I wasn't been growing in a field....lol.

Thanks Em x

Thanks Quix..you're a star as always.  Saw my GP today.  I said I wanted to go back to work starting at 2 half days per week then building up...she looked at me and then laughed, in a nice way, she then said she had just recieved a letter from my ms dr stating that I have an organic neurological disease but as this current time he is unsure as to what....I kind of knew this but it's nice hear it's not all in my head. It's official I'm not mad..lol.

Hope you are ok?

Organic is an older term in medicine.  Basically it means that there really is something wrong and it is not psychological or the effects of on going anxiety or ongoing depression.  It sort of is like the organic produce. An organic medical problem is a "real" one of disease and not "artificially" caused by some other thing like a warped personality or caused by external conditons.

Beings that so many of the "psychosomatic" conditions are now being shown to have their basis in genetics and neurochemistry, rather than one's "subconscious,"  I think it's kind of a silly word to use.  But, when the doc uses it, he is saying that there really, really is a problem in the functioning (or malfunctioning) of your nervous system.  So it is a good thing.
