What's in a name?

Your screen/usernames often leave me wondering - just like those vanity car license plates that spell out cryptic messages. So I would like to know more about your screen name - is there a story behind it that you would like to share?

My name - Lulu - isn't what I started out with.  A couple months into this when I realized I would be sticking around here, I thought everyone else has a *fun* name, why shouldn't I do the same?

We have a dear friend who has a habit of calling all of us women friends *Lulu* when we gather to play cards.   Alzheimers runs in his family and he often says knowing all of us by one name now will be helpful later on.    He uses it as a term of endearment part of the time and as a curse other times.  :-)

I also think of this MiSerable disease as one lulu of a hand to be dealt.

Just plain *Lulu* was already taken so I put my birthyear behind the name - hence Lulu54.

So in a nutshell, that's the story behind my username.

What's your story?

My name is for obvious reasons. My Drs. Don't Help!!!!! I have a total of 15 Drs.

Each Dr. that Doesn't help me figure out what the H*** is going on with me and pass me on to the next, was the reason for my name. Not all 15 drs. are for this reason only, but each one of my drs. suggest another specialist for me to go see.

I do have to say, I like "Ufrustrated2" that the "Drsdonthelp"!!!! It is funny. LOL

Where did my screen name come from?

Well... Doug in Latin means... deep, murky puddle of something that shouldn't be stepped in.  I like deep, murky puddles... and I can't help from steppin' in them.

The 1964 part?  Well... many great events took place in the year 1964:

-  The first Ford Mustang rolled off the assembly line.

-  The Beatles appear on the Billboard magazine charts for the first time.

-  Then The Beatles make their first appearance on The Ed Sullivan Show.

-  Then The Beatles occupy all of the top five positions on the Billboard singles chart in the United States.

-  The game show Jeopardy! made its debut on television.

-  The Republic of China (Taiwan) breaks off diplomatic relations with France (I guess they didn't like the cheese and wine thing that was going on).

-  The Smothers Brothers give their first concert in Carnegie Hall in New York City (those were some funny dudes).

-  President Lyndon B. Johnson signs the Civil Rights Act of 1964, which prohibits segregation in public places.

-  Ranger 6 is launched by NASA, on a mission to carry television cameras and crash-land on the Moon.

-  Ranger 7 sends back the first close-up photographs of the moon, with images 1,000 times clearer than anything ever seen from earth-bound telescopes).

-  Underdog debuts on CBS!  (But let's not forget Mighty Mouse too).

-  Plans to build the New York World Trade Center are announced.

-  Chrysler's Second Generation HEMI racing engine (426 Cubic Inches with Hemispherical Head design) debuts at the Daytona 500. The HEMI powered Plymouth of Richard Petty (#43) wins. HEMI powered Plymouths finish 1-2-3.

-  The government of Italy asks for help to keep the Leaning Tower of Pisa from toppling over (the United States sent Underdog and Mighty Mouse to save the day!).

-  Richard Burton and Elizabeth Taylor marry (for the first time... what a wacky, crazy couple, eh?) in Montreal.

-  IBM announces the System/360.

-  Three high school friends in Hoboken, N.J., open the first BLIMPIE on Washington Street.

-  Shea Stadium opens in Flushing, New York.

-  Bob Dylan turns The Beatles on to cannabis for the first time (don't ask me how I know this).

-  A collection of irreplaceable gemstones, including the 565 carats (113 g) Star of India, is stolen from the American Museum of Natural History in New York City (don't ask me how I know about this one either, fair enough?   ;-)

-  Pete Townshend of The Who destroys his first guitar in the name of auto-destructive art at the Railway Hotel, London.

-  NASA launches the Mariner 4 space probe from Cape Kennedy toward Mars to take television pictures of that planet in July 1965.

-  Rudi Gernreich designs the original monokini topless swimsuit in the US (God rest his soul).

-  Doug, deep, murky puddle of something that shouldn't be stepped in, was born  --  not in a manger wrapped in swaddling clothes; but rather in a hospital in the State of Kentucky.

While I probably should have put the Cliff Note version at the beginning of this post (which I just couldn't bring myself to do) my name is Doug and I was born in '64.

I must have somehow missed this before - that's what I get when I'm not on here much, huh??  lol

I just now read thru everyone's stories - what a great thread Lulu!  It's been fun to see how the different names have come about.  Thank you all for sharing and letting us know you a little better ... :-)

Here's my story... I used to have a Quaker parrot named Cosmo.  (My son had named him after Cosmo Spacely, from the Jetsons).  I got him as a baby, just 12 weeks old, and he was my buddy for 9 years.  He was not a people person, lol.  He was bonded closely to me, but wasn't such a fan of most other people. He could be moody and cranky, but also sweet and cuddly.  I loved him to death and spoiled him rotten - he was my little feathered baby.

Well, I finally met the love of my life at age 43 - life is full of surprises, isn't it?  He is a police officer, and was selected to go into K-9 shortly before we married.  That meant Bomber, his new partner, would also be living in the house with us.  K-9 dogs are also very much a part of their families.

But Bomber is a 100 lb German Shepherd ... he is generally very docile around the house (unless someone he doesn't know comes to the door or breaches the perimeter of our property, lol), but we just were not comfortable introducing a small bird into the equation.  Plus, Cosmo was used to being out of his cage whenever I was home.  That would have been a dicey scenario, and it wasn't fair to keep my little Cozzie in the cage all the time.

So we decided it was in Cosmo's best interest to find him a new home.  Fortunately I found what was the perfect new person for him, so I knew he would be in good hands.  I didn't sell him, I just wanted to find a person who would love him and take good care of him ... but it broke my heart to have to leave him.  I cried for days ... :)  I used to call him my little Cozzie Bird, so Cosmobirdy is kind of my little tribute to him and my way to always keep him with me at least a little bit.... :-)

As far as Bomber, I have beome just crazy about him as well.  He had to retire after only a year on the street due to a rare muscle disease, so now he is home full time.  He's my buddy and my companion, and I know I am always safe here at home, even if my hubby is at work.  And that's a wonderful feeling, too ... :-)

Sorry that was such a long story, lol.
Bye for now,
Rita
