Which DMD to choose?

Well my doctor finally decided to start a DMD. He has talked to me about all of them. He recommends Avonex because my sister is on that and she is doing great. I am leaning toward Copaxone because it is the one with the least side affects. I am not too fond of giving myself a shot everyday but I don't want to have to worry about liver problems and flu like symptoms either.

My sister has been on Avonex for the past 8 years and she is doing remarkable. I love the fact that she is doing well, but I am not fond of the weekly intramuscular shot, I know waaaa what a baby lol.

What do you all take, I know what some of you take but would love to hear your opionions.

Paula - so happy to hear you'll be able to start a dmd. I'm on Rebif and do well with it. Side affects are minimal at 1st, and after 1st cpl months go on - fairly uneventful. Don't even notice any most times. They say flu like, but I never experienced anything comparible to the flu. Liver has always remained good too.

Nice to hear your sis is doing well with Avonex. Wishing you the best with your decision. Be sure to include injection schedule - because if you hate it, you won't be compliant w/the schedule.

Hope this helps,
-shell

Copaxone we decided wasn't doing enough for me so we started Avonex, I got my first shot yesterday. So far so good It doesn't Itch or burn like the Copaxone it is just like a little pressure when you finally inject and then it's over. I was amazed and huffing and puffin over nothing. I was more scared than the SQ but I'm happy and once a week sounds better than everyday. On the copaxone I got to where I would give myself a day off occasionally...possibly why it wasn't working?

The flu symptoms for me have not been to bad but I'm only one shot into it. I did it around 4pm and still cooked dinner went to bed early was kind of achey but it's nothing I don't think would keep me from going to work if i had too.

Good luck on whatever you pick!

It is about time he got off dead center and started you on something. He has sure wasted time getting to this point.

I'm on copaxone and I picked that because of the lack of side effects - I think of my daily shot as being no different than if I had diabetes and had to do an insulin shot daily.

You need to do what is best for you - they all have close to the same rate for efficacy, so there is no wrong decision.

Lulu

Paula,
Glad to hear you will be starting a dmd.  I am taking copaxone.  I am a baby when it comes to shots but really these are not bad. Not too deep and sometimes can't feel a thing. It's the remembering that can sometimes trip me up, although I have never skipped a shot.

My neuro picked it for me with my consent due to lack of side effects and not having monitor liver. I guess it's doing it's job as I am sx free.

Good luck deciding. Looking forward to your journey with taking something...it's interesting.
