Yes; an MRI can be done if you have pacemaker!

Quixotic encouraged me both in my plans and in the need to share what I've learned with fellow members.  Doctors have been trying to diagnose my various and worsening neurological symptoms over this past full year.  I've had all tests "known to man" without the MRI.  I can't count the number of times I've heard, "If only you could have an MRI."Well, I have a wonderful cardiologist whom I asked to look into this for me, and he did.  He even talked with the cardiologist who will be on hand at the hospital and was part of making the arrangements for me.  On the East Coast, Johns Hopkins University as well as the University of Pennsylvania do them, depending on the type of device you have.  Mine is 2 years old, so we're not talking about the newest devices that are currently being manufactured so that patients can have an MRI as needed.  It's not a special machine; rather, they use special settings, monitor your heart constantly, and have the cardio on hand during the procedure.

I will travel from VA to PA on Dec. 28.  Forum members, please think about/pray for me.  I will post my experience upon my return.  Merrry Christmas!

I just heard a news bite this week that the FDA has approved the first ICD that can be used in an MRI - I didn't catch which brand or how old of a unit, but it's worth researching through google if you have one.  Do it now before it turns into an emergency need for imaging so you know for sure what your status is.

this is good news - my understanding is the MRI magnet can change the action of the ICD (pacemaker) and the newer ones can be reset remotely.  It is amazing technology and I'm hopeful that you will benefit from getting this MRI done.

be well

Sending good thoughts and vibes your way for your MRI. Hopefully, it will answer some your questions and provide the docs with some answers.

Interesting re the pacemaker. My mom has an older version and was to NEVER have an MRI, this is exciting it me and will share this with my Mom so she can tell her fantastic team of docs about this. Her docs are excellent and would research this themselves given just a hint of  the possibilities.

Sending good luck wishes and thoughts your way on the 28th. I hope all goes well.
