Update on Sunnytoday

I heard from Sunny after her afternoon appointment with the genetics specialist.  She spent a very long (over two hours) time with her and her mother.  She went through literally dozens of diseases that Sunny could have, then found proof why she does not have each disease.  She called the "abnormalities" in her brain MRI done at NYU "lesions".

So after the long appointment, Sunny still has no answers.  She is to come back in two months to see Dr. K.  They drew even more blood today.  The doctors said she could try and work part time.  And Sunny did say that as the doctor would tell her that if she had a certain disease, she would probably die in a few years, then all of a sudden, MS doesn't sound too bad.    All those genetic diseases that kill you when you're young.

So poor Sunny...all that hope she had for an answer and now no answer.  She is strong though and will come through it.  But it is just not fair.  I guess that maybe after ruling out all possible diseases, they may come up with "atypical MS" in two months.

Sunny goes home on Friday.

It must be difficult for her to still not know, but I am sure it is a relief to be treated fairly and with concern by skilled doctors.  From what I recall, her former doctors were less than helpful, and she went through a lot before getting to NYU.

If nothing else, I do hope they are able to eliminate more conditions.  Though with her level of progrssion, we are all still praying for a definite answer (& hopefully one that can be attacked back!).

It's a good thing Sunny has such strong faith; that will help her get through all of this.

It is so totally not fair that she has to go through all of this, but she is an amazingly strong and resilient young lady.  I love that she could see that MS doen't sound so bad after hearing about all those other diseases.  I was going to say that she's like the little sister I wish I had, then I realized that she would more likely be like the daughter I never had....Oy!

Elaine, thanks for once again passing along her message.  I've been thinking of her so often and praying for the best possible outcome; it really helps to hear some news.  I do like that she doesn't have those genetic diseases, but I'm sad that she doesn't have any answers yet.

Elaine,
Thanks for the update - Sunnytoday has been on everyone's mind in the past few days.  What a disappointment to still not have an answers, but at least the list of what it isn't continues to grow.

My best,
Lulu
